I dont understand why advertising is a bad idea. I always thought advertising was a good thing. Maybe done over a more appropriate median than newspaper/radio.

Please help me understand why not telling people who dont know about our rallyX events is a bad idea. Im not trying to fight or argue here, i just want to understand.

well again this my opinion only.

i think the desire is to attract individuals that will respect the rules of the event and the property hosting said event. the "Fast & Frivolous" types are generally younger and dare I say unruly.

given the speed and roll-over potential of a RallyX we try to avoid putting the event out to the general public to avoid Soccer Moms who need a new cause from deeming us unsafe to society should their unsupervised young adult wreck Mom's Subaru.

and last but not least, we don't want the local law enforcement officials waiting outside our events pulling people for who knows what.

anyone other than me remember the Southern Pines Roadblock?

Quote: Police Officer- " what cha got in the trailer? a car?"

enthusiasts have a way of finding our events. we probably should keep it that way.

the opinions voiced here are by no means the opinions of THSCC or its Affiliates

I do understand and agree with the above, However, I have been part of differnet groups that tend to self regulate. I used to ride with a group of non wheely popping motorcyclest. every now and then, someone would join our goup, and brag about how they ran from the cops, or how they ran a wheeling down I85 for 9 miles with 3 cops following them at 120 MPH blah blah blah. Those people tend to not stay around long, and though a black mark on the motorcycle world, they choose on their own to not hang out with the responsible crowd.

As far as mom's suburu getting rolled. Maybe we should do a better job of making sure everyone is atleast 18 and leagly allowed to sign a contract stating they enter at their own risk. Do we ever do an actual license check at ANY of the events? I dont think I have ever seen one.

Thanks for explaining your thought process, I think it makes since... but I also believe that the unrullie people will weed themselfs out very quickly when surrounded by as many higher moral people as our group has.

maybe so, but it only takes one.

if the club chooses to advertise it should be in an enthusiast type forum. be that print, or internet.

as for the under 18 crowd, i think we probably do a good job there. i still think people could drive mom's car after they are 18.

maybe it is my age catching up to me, but i was horrified at the last AutoX i attended. i can't imagine how some of these people got licenses let alone how they got out of the asylum. ullllggghggh

yeah... advertising in the news paper might not be the right idea... but a better job of advertising might be a good idea.

as far as your last autoX comment... I'm sorry, I will have myself re-commited.

As a site owner (co-owner technically...), I really prefer that we have mostly THSCC members at any RallyCross held at our site. Not saying I don't want to encourage folks to bring guests/friends/etc, but I'm not that excited about opening it up to people who don't "get" it.

By that I mean people who don't understand what THSCC is all about and how our events are run- that this is NOT an opportunity to show off your stuntman driving techniques or drive like an a-hole, etc.

As for running events "below the radar" as Mr Remchak mentioned, I think this is a good idea for site owners as well- the last thing I want is some county official to come snooping around or sending me letters asking me about the "races" that I've been holding on our property. Some of you may have noticed that the signs that are placed at the end of our driveway on RallyX days that say "THSCC AUTOX" with an arrow pointing the way are usually laying flat after the event has started- well it's me that's doing that, I just don't want any unnecessary attention. I figure the people who are participating in the event are already there by start time, and anyone else coming to spectate either has directions or can figure it out without those signs.

I'll mention something that happened a year or so ago. I was working on a car (surprise) out by my shop, behind our house. Here comes a red 240sx with 2 young guys in it driving slowly down the path towards the rallycross field at the back of the farm. I yelled at them a couple of times to stop, but they ignored me and kept going. I walked over to the path and was going to track them down, but they got as far as the partially washed out bridge and decided to turn around. They were local high school students who said they had heard about the "dirt race track" and looked it up on google maps and just wanted to check it out in person. I mentioned to them that it might be a good idea for them to stop when they are on private property and someone is yelling "STOP" at them.......they apologized and then took off.

I'm glad this discussion has come up, I really want to see the THSCC RallyX program succeed and I think with all of the enthusiasm we have in this club, it will continue to do so.

and to add to Mr. Luter's point. Kevin Allen had a similar experience with complete strangers venturing onto his property in the middle of the night.

and if i remember the story correctly, they actually completed a circuit before Kevin was able to confront them.

i would say they were lucky a lead kick in the ass wasn't involved.
