 Post subject: Rallycross tire width

So, I have been told that unlike autocross, in rallycross narrow/tall is better. Is there consensus on this?

Narrow tires dig deeper and provide more traction. I can't speak for eveyone, but this is a FACT in the case of our General Lei. Tested, tried and true.

He speaks the truth. In fact, when we found out we had a bent rim this weekend, we had to do some tire shuffling and ended up putting our 165 wide "Dominator's" on the General. They dug in pretty good. I don't know if there is such thing as too narrow though. I don't think taller would buy you anything except a better chance of debeading.

trucks have taller tires, because they can roll over more obstacles.. taller and wider means more traction and flotation.. although this is for trucks..
for rally cars, there may be a different tactic. ice you want narrow with studs, so that it can dig into the snow, like a ice skate. teh studs provide traction.

I've run 195, 205, 225 street tires and haven't noticed a big difference. IMO, tread pattern is the most important factor, then diameter, for gearing.

My rally tires are 195/65/15. I may be getting some new 205/60/15's soon, as the ones I have are 10 years old, with rounded tread blocks, and are a little too tall for pulling out of tight corners.
