Hi Guys,

This was the first rally x for myself, my son Jake and his friend Tracie and we will definitely be back. :D

Everyone was very helpful, from getting our numbers to helping Tracie learn to drive a clutch. (Note to self: Teach people to drive a clutch before the start line!!)

I didn't adapt very quickly and I definitely need to adjust the nut behind the wheel more, but that's the challenge I love.

I thought the course was fun and challenging, some fun sweepers, some soft stuff where you had to get "creative" with your line to get traction, some elevation changes, good stuff!

We met a lot of great people and we had a great time.

Tracie said it best on the way past the barn. "Whens the next one?"

Thanks again

Brad M

Glad you had a good time, Brad! And you were making everyone jealous with your pretty rally car!

That's one's easy. August 11 at Orange County Speedway.

Glad you and your crew had fun Brad. That's what it's all about!

FWIW, I still say puck clutches suck. I could not imagine trying to learn to drive a stick with one so Tracie didn't pretty well! BTW, tell her when I said "you drive like a girl" it was sort of a "welcome to the club" kind of thing, not an insult. I tell Mo and Malia that all the time, but they know me and don't take it the wrong way. We razz folks all the time, it's just part of the fun. Well unless you are an oversensitive Subaru driver that is.

Hope to see you guys back at OCS in August.

Thanks to Carl, Emmie, Simon, Kieran and all the other event staff for getting me addicted to one more type of competition :D.

Did you think RX was some good clean fun? Welcome to the addiction!

BTW Kent, it was nice to finally met you in person Saturday. If you can make it to NASA at VIR next month I'll get you hooked on yet another motorsport drug.

Thanks! Good to connect names/faces/cars at the events.

*Cough* - still getting dust and fire-extinguisher powder out of my system

I'll be at VIR putting around at the kart enduro Fri + Sat evenings, so I'll definitely take you up on a ride-along. Still debating on the $50 Hyperdrive, but I'll request you as instructor if I go ahead.

re: Vincent's bitching...

The morning finish only sucked if you didn't do it right. There was plenty of grip and speed to be had if you slowed yer ass down and drove it right (which was tight and smooth). So apparently you're the one who sucked. :P

I wasn't *bitching* just saying that two hairpins suck especially in a place with those soil conditions.

I'm pretty sure Carl did it right and he wasn't going too fast and was definitely looking for grip. I had one of the faster 2WD times in the morning so I'm pretty sure I did it right too, but even when done right...it still sucked. :P Take note: Hair-pin + sandy soil = teh suck

In that last turn, when I did it right I had plenty of grip and it felt nice and smooth. But I wasn't throwing it in there and hoping it would stick like most people were. :P I really had to concentrate on that turn - finally nailed it my last run (the other two weren't horrible, but the first one wasn't very good by my standards).

I liked those last two turns before the finish. Made you slow down and be patient if you didn't want to be chugging along in the sand, 20ft off the ideal line. And just like usual, the ideal (inside) line was nice and smooth, because very few people were putting their car there.

I kinda thought those two turns might rut and suck pretty bad, but Kieran wanted to use that space, so I set it up that way. And I kinda/sorta remembered those areas not being extremely bad at the first event we did that used that area. We had a similar turnaround where the one just before the finish was, and it held up well. I think it turned out nicely this time, too. :D

For some reason none of us in the General do particularly well in the dry sandy soil at Bret & Kelly's place. I guess if we don't do better at OCS we'll have to find something else to blame it on.

Maybe a 71HP one wheel drive vehicle has something to do with it.
I felt the same with the Bovine Beater!!

Great event! Big Thanks to Simon and Kieran for perform event chair duties.

All 5 of you placed in the top ten for SU2. I don't see how that's not good. :D Maybe I'm looking at it wrong...

So what if she breaks it? You both have other cars to drive to work and I'm sure you can fix whatever she breaks.

Everyone should have AAA anyway. Ryan would be lost if I didn't have it.

She is worried because while the car looks like a POS it is my pheonix(Low satandards and all that)

This event really showed me how much I need to get on that AAA wagon train. As it is if my car breaks I will be out there with a flashlight fixing it.

If it breaks, you can just leave it, I'll haul it off on the next load........ ;)

Oh, no. Even if it got rolled it would go home for all the parts to get pulled and go in the next shell. I might bring the damaged shell back out. It would be easier than sawing it down for the dump.

Our Focus gave us trouble - fuel pump related I think.

Ford had an issue in the late 90s/early 00s with a release agent the gas tank gumming up the works on their fuel pumps. Since the Contour and Focus use the same one (from what I've heard) there has been a redesign in the past several years. Mine did the same thing, and it required a new pump and a fuel filter too. It's been working fine since, but you might want to take a look at the screen of the old one and see if there's anything brown and gummy on it. If so, you'll want to put cleaner through a couple of tanks and look into some sort of injector cleaning.
