Well, I actually had something posted on the forum last night for a few minutes, but then I thought I'd do a courtesy to the guy who gave me the tip on this site by letting him know about it before making the "formal announcement". Of course, I'd already updated the website in 10 different places, and I was too lazy (at 12:30am) to go undo it all.

But, since the cat is out of the bag I guess, I'll post it shortly...

We're pleased to announce a new site for the rallycross program! We'll be having the November 12th non-points event at
Image
near Roxboro. No, we won't be on the track at all, but they have a nice field used for overflow parking that we can use.

It's a grass surface, and it appears to be a pretty firm clay underneath, so it shouldn't rut up like our other sites. It's also got some elevation change, about as much as BMW Farm, though it's spread over a longer distance.

Here's a Google Maps link of the field- it's the V-shaped field just southwest of the track, if the link doesn't take you to quite the right place.

Since having spectators at this site wouldn't create a problem (as it would at our other sites), and with a greater potential for getting sponsors, we're hopeful that we can do some different things here that could help grow the program and make the club a little more money- but we'll worry about that next year. For now we're just psyched to have a new place to play!

I guess I better start slinging some tools. Maybe the 15 day deadline will be enough to get me back in the garage.

Are the autoX VPs still OK with chairing this? Vincent, I know it'll be further for you (for Stephen too, I imagine). I went ahead and picked a name for the event, "Rallycross ROCS", trying to use the OCS for Orange County Speedway, and the 1 other event we had at a racetrack (Rockingham) was called "Rallycross Rocks", so I was trying to play on that as well.

Still, it's pretty lame, and I'm wide open to better suggestions. Though 1 thing I would like to do is to use the OCS logo for the dash plaque, but with the club logo and the date (at minimum) on there as well. Then we could make sure the OCS track folks get a few for themselves, and assuming the event isn't a fiasco they'd be good keepsakes. :-)

What think?

It's actually quite a bit further for me and Ryan, but I'm in if the other guys are.

We're going to have to do course setup on Saturday the 11th, and I'd like to try to get a fairly early start if we can. There'll be a race on the track starting at 3, and it'd be great if we could be out of there before then.

Vincent, if you can come to setup that'd be great, but I understand if you don't want to make that round-trip 2 days in a row. Not sure what the hotel situation in the area is (at the bottom of this page they list some hotels), or you could stay over at our house (about 45mins away). Let me know about that.

It'd also be good if we could get 2 or 3 other volunteers to help out on setup day- email or PM if interested.

Thanks!

Wow. That is a 'killer' 16.5 mi (about 29 mins) from my front door step. I think I can help out.

These should be close to the same scale. Four Oaks on the left, OCS on the right. The little brown boxes are 100' each:

I can, but it sounds like there might be a bunch of cooks in the kitchen already. Would you rather Vincent and I do the Dec. 3rd event instead? I would rather let some of you more experience course design people handle that aspect at a new venue.
