how strong is the awd systems on older subarus, like 90's mid on to present, consumer reports panned that system saying it was weak, and prone to failure, is this so, or dothey not know what their saying,

Have a look at the Legacy and you get your answer. It has rally tires and I am consistently doing 5k rpm launches off the line. We only had problems with the automatic tranny on the last one. This one has been bulletproof so far. :D

Now watch it break at the next event since I said how good it was. :roll:

Well, that was the flex plate, and we decided at investors at that time that we didn't want to put anymore money into an auto, IIRC.

The OLD car could have been repaired for cheap -- we just decided to go a different route.

Well the tranny was acting up if I recall right before the flex plate broke but that might have been a screwed up linkage.

Regardless, getting an L for cheap would be a great rally car. You CAN find 5spds for 300-500, slap it in an underpowered NA 2.2L 2500lbs car, and you should have FTD. :) Just get an AWD L :)
