One other personal point. The allegedly reckless "beater" drivers resent being lumped into a group and ridiculed. If you need to say "Charlie drives like a jerk," just say it, but don't immune the honor of Vincent, Brian, Mitch,....and a host of others. We don't call you guys jerks (well at least not so everyone hears). Seriously, it is inappropriate to make disparaging remarks about any group unless all the members of that group deserve derision. In this case I am taking it more personally because I'm in the slurred minority.

Relax Charlie, I wasn't insulting you or any of the "beater" drivers, so just sit down, OK? I just meant that you guys in general (and I had no one particular in mind) are more free to push it to the limit because you don't have to drive those cars to work on Monday, and they were cheap so it's not really a big deal if something happens to them, right? Isn't that the whole reason you got those cars rather than using your street cars? Come on! I'm not saying anyone's being reckless, but it's just human nature to take bigger chances when there's less perceived risk. And I can tell you that, from what I've seen, y'all are pushing those little cars about as hard as they can go. That doesn't mean it's reckless, but the closer you get to the limit the smaller the margin for error. That's just how it works.

We've heard the opinions of a few drivers on what they think the problems are and what we can do about it, but we still haven't heard anything from a lot of the regulars. Does no one have anything else to offer?

You beater drivers are all a bunch of no-talent hacks. :P

I would like to suggest that one of the top driver's talk about the morning course during lunch at the next event. They could talk about the line and how they adjusted the line for changing conditions. Where they slowed or adjusted their line for safety reasons. Or any other information that would help all of us drive safer and more consistently which will also be faster. A short school on how to rally-cross.

Good idea, and let's get some volunteers - not just one, maybe 2 or 3. I'll volunteer, if we can get the course changed over quickly. I've also been putting some notes together for a rallyx school, and will post those soon.

As the pilot for the Bovine Beater's trip to the moon:shock:, I need/ would appreciate some sort of driver's school or mentor program. As entertaining as it was 8) it is not something I would like to repeat.

After these last 2 events it is clear to me that I have developed a "Crisis Management" driving style... and after looking @ my times it's obvious it's not fast and a bit frustrating.
One of my weaknesses, here and at AutoX, is being able to "read" the course. And with the changing conditions at RallyX it amplifies this problem.
So any help that I can get from you veterans would be extremely helpful, even if it's a few ride alongs.

I am willing to help with novices. I am nowhere near a great rally driver but I do have some insight that I have learned over the last year that might prove atleast somewhat useful.

I am also willing to help, but I do not think I am nearly good enough of a driver to instruct in any capacity.

From what I have seen; it would be a great help with Carl, Kevin, Feinburg, Matthew Johnson.... they were turning GREAT times on a REALLY crappy course once they were running. I was quite impressed.

Regardless, I would like to help in any fashion that I can, but I hardly think I am qualified to teach anything but general instructions.

Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't been around. Early in the year I was trying to save a little money because things weren't looking too good at work. The trucking company I worked for was doing some strange things (like unloading assets for cash) and I was a little worried (been there before). As of April 28th I was without a job, the owner decided to shut the company down.

I know that this is pretty late to be putting my 2 cents in especially since I wasn't at the event in question but here goes anyway.

I think that on the education front, it would be a good idea to implement something we do at SCR autocrosses. Have a novice walk-though of the course with an experienced driver. Then you can explain each area of concern on the course, what they need to be looking out for, along with how things will change as the course gets worn in. You could do this before the normal driver's meeting so that you can still get started on time. A novice walking the course by him/herself has no idea what that small amount of off-camber on that turn or that slight bump before the turn is going to do to their car much less trying to get the thing stopped after the finish. So let's educate them before every event. It seems to me that this would be more important for rallycross than autocross.

Just my 2 cents.

Phillip.

Wow. Sorry to hear about the job, Phillip. I lost mine about a month before you did, though - so I win again.

I've heard several different people mention the novice walk-through in the past. I've thought about doing it myself, but I usually end up being too busy with other stuff and forget all about it. I'll make sure we do it next time; not sure it will prevent incidents, but it may help a few people in some way.

I didn't know that winning was THAT important to you Kevin, you know losing at some things is ok.

You can win at that anytime you want to.
