Besides, it sounds like Ryan has learned how to build a DSM from scratch.

The 14b is the stock turbo on the 1G DSMs, and is a very solid turbo. Excellent power production, not too laggy, generally long lasting. Since I drove said car numerous times when Les owned it, It was still pretty strong, expecially considering the mileage. A decent used 14b can be picked up for peanuts on the multitude of DSM boards.
The crappy DSM turbo is the T-25 that comes on the 2g cars. My original T-25 died at 41K miles on my old green 2G. That's not an abnormal failure at all.
