I'm assuming its an autocross on dirt. How do the classes work.

Yes, it's an autocross on dirt. Only differences are that we'll run the course 3 times on 1 direction, then 3 times in the reverse direction, and that the final scores will be the sum of all 6 runs , not the best run.

Classes are as listed on the prereg page or described on the rules page. For this event, they're as follows:

SU2: Street Tire, Under 2.4 liter, 2-wheel-drive
SO2: Street Tire, Over 2.4 liter, 2-wheel-drive
S04: Street Tire, any displacement, 4-wheel-drive

Notice that the only classes are street tire classes- that's because we're not permitting rally tires, snow tires, all-terrain or any kind of knobby tires at this event. Please read the rallycross class rules for our working definition of "Street Tires"- they will be enforced!

I was reading a description of another club's rallycross and it said that a missed cone was a 5 second penalty (rather than a DNF as in autocross) and a hit cone was a 2 second penalty. A DNF would be pretty devastating when the times are accumulated.

Wiil our rallycross use this rule too?

Missing a gate or otherwise going off course will net the competitor a "bogey time" - a (relatively large) fixed time. For example, if competitive times for the course are in the 1:30 range, the bogey time might be 3:00. The bogey time for each event will be made public before the event starts, either by posting it prominently somewhere, or announcing it at the driver's meeting, or both.

BTW, all this and more is contained in the Rallycross Rules document. I hope you all will read it.
