I recognize that the people in the bus work very hard, doing something that I would be terrible at. I am NOT criticizing them.

The final results from the Feb 2017 rally cross at VIR is full of errors. It was pretty obvious from the preliminary results that the recon run was included for some people and not other people. Some even got 5 runs included. The final results appear to include the first 3 runs, thus including the recon run instead of skipping it. Also, some totals do not reflect the 3 displayed.

What can we do to help out the people in the bus so that we get accurate results soon after the event? I can help the day after a rally cross if there is anything that I can do.

It's a busy job on the bus. What I tell everyone is to keep the paper records correct; don't worry about what's in the computer. After the event, someone has to go through all the data in the computer to make sure all the times are there, the correct car is associated with each time, cones/reruns/dnfs are all noted, and then correct the DNF times (axware SUCKS) and add 999's for missing runs (axware SUCKS!) The audit can be messy when the person doing it wasn't involved in the event.

(I don't have the laptop, data, or paper records, so I can't do anything about it at the moment.)

I am willing to be trained for the bus duties as to help with them in the future.

A small part of it is my fault, I was trying to run the computer and record the times on paper towards the end of the first run group and got out of synch, so there were 3 or 4 runs that were unknown and didn't get attributed to anyone. I was going to see who was missing runs in the afternoon and give them an extra to compensate but then we didn't get afternoon official runs.

There were a few factors contributing to timing issues overall, not blaming anyone, and it was my first time running timing with this club so a few things were confusing. But anyways a few things to improve that caused trouble with timing while I was running it:
1) Two people are needed in the bus, one recording the paper times one recording on the computer. We had this in the afternoon but not right when I took over running timing. Just general lack of coordination and confusion with run groups, not a big deal but something we can improve on.

2) We need to make sure everyone is registered. There were several people who got to the starting line without having registered and that caused delays and confusion.

3) Numbers and class letters need improvement. I don't mind tape numbers and class letters at all, I had them myself. But they can be done badly or done well. Some cars were missing class entirely, some had the wrong class compared to what they were registered in, and some were just badly done.

I don't think I can risk my Civic for the upcoming rallyx since I'm taking the NASA instructor school at VIR the following weekend, but I might come out Sunday and run timing and try to do a better job with it overall. I think it will improve with practice as a group as much as anything.

Thanks for the explanation David. Better numbers and classes on the cars is very doable. Getting experience and enough help in the bus would surely help a lot.

Unregistered cars do lead to a lot of panic in the bus. But it shouldn't. Hint: you can type in the boxes in the staging grid.

I wouldn't call it panic, just annoyance. Also as someone who has been event chair before, if someone isn't registered it sets off warning flags of non-waiver signing potential liability incidents in my head.

I'm aware you can type in, but it's a pain and from my experience with AxWare anything you can do to avoid breaking it is a good thing heh.

That's part of the "panic". You don't want to start adding entrants during live timing. That's when things like to crash.

I'm not worried about people signing the waiver, etc. Drivers are pretty good about that. Yeah, we should probably check for wrist bands.
