I'll second that the CRX will make a good RallyX beater - ours has seen a rough life up to this point (11 years in MN) but has held up well in the last 3 RallyX's with 2 drivers and LOTS of runs. I would think you could pick up a beat-up DX for relatively cheap. Despite the DX having lots of troubles rotating in AutoX - the car rotates VERY well in RallyX.

As for how hard RallyX is on a car - we have managed to peel out each of the front wheel well liners in the last 2 RallyX's. Why? Me driving stupid - both times in fun-runs where I knew I could push a little harder without worrying about times  . No doubt that this was driver induced and due SOLELY to my lack of concern for the car. It should also be noted that even excluding the cones hit during the 2 runs in question, my times were NEVER better than my more conservative runs. However, with my super-soft-sidwall 60-profile tires at 45psi, I've never blown a bead or had other tire troubles, despite plenty of opportunities going "too fast in the slow parts".

I might recommend a car with A/C -or- power windows however, if you indend to do anything BUT RallyX it. I spent an hour with the vacuum cleaner just to alleviate the dust-storms inside the car while driving down the road after the last race due to racing with the windows down. Kevin, I think I owe you some dirt :)

hi, perhaps a protoge, maybe a celica, 1992? fwd, good torque, cool looking, open diff would be good for making cool l0oking rooseter tails,i drove a '92 gts automatic in high school be4 the datsun. the brakes on teh car were impressive, felt faster than it was. 1.6 litre sentra se perhaps.(se is se-r body, but 1.6 engine, 110 hp.) lots of them out there,(even worked on a 1.6 sentra motor at wake tech) .. olde integra, late 1980's? maybe a miata? a old v-8 car would be a handful on the dirt but would be fun.
a mazda glc or mazda glh, hot lil pocket rocket, the GLH mazda....
a more recent corolla, basing on our recent reliability succsess..
the 510 datsun was a real kick butt car.. or a miata perhaps. lotsa them around.

maybe as a rental company special is a oldsmobile auroura, v-8 engine, fwd, lotsa fun with throwing dirt everywhere.

Miles, you started this, so why not finish it by surfing over to the next thread titled "prospective" rally group car and buy this car before I do something stupid.
