How should we handle the September event? (Please read the message(s) before casting your ballot.)
I would love to drive on the clay based VIR rally school course that is closer than Danville. 52%  52%  [ 14 ]
No thanks I'm happy with our two current sites. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

I would happily run two events in September (7th & 21st). 19%  19%  [ 5 ]
Keep the September 21st Fayetteville event and forget VIR. 0%  0%  [ 0 ]

The course looks great! I doubt we could afford it normally, but could see possibly making a package deal next year HPDE + rallyx.

I'm all for it, as I'll be at VIR for the HPDE. And I won't make the 21st as that's the last Lemons race (@ CMP) of the year. We may need to rent a car hauler to get all of our junkers there :-) We should have our nissan ready to break/run by then. Running back and forth Sunday may be challenging; rally is fun, but I'm not giving up new-pavement-track-time.

(I'm gonna need a spotter for a course that long!)

So a couple of comments on this. First, it's my understanding the rallx event will be sponsored by THSCC. In as such we're trying to see if we can run this under the HPDE insurance and not have to set up a separate policy. More on that to come. Also of note is the date. I believe this was to run on Sat the 6th and the autox on Sun the 7th. In regard to the autox, that will be hosted and run by the SCCA and they will use the skip pad. I say more power to them to use this site. Bottom line is VIR is behind this and they are cutting us a break in regard to pricing.

As for this event as a whole, the question was asked to everyone on a conf call to see if this was worth pushing thru in trying to get new drivers. The answer was yes. So the end goal here is try to get new blood interested in all 3 events, track, rallyx and autox. What's even better is this really is a joint event between THSCC and the SCCA. That my friends if unheard of and I for think it's a great move. Hat's off to Mark Senior of the SCCA for brain storming this and making it happen.

We have a few months to go, so while we have a little time, but it will be here before you know it. I'll have more details later, but I for one support this in trying to introduce motorsports to new drivers.

The Flat4 Facebook crowd is a good target for some promotion. A good number of them probably don't want to get their cars dirty, but if we can even get 1-2 to come out on a regular basis it would be a good thing.

*** Edit: I posted a feeler in that group and I'll try to field questions as they happen, does anybody with an official position want prospective drivers to contact them?

If you run the rally school course, as-is, without 15 billion cones slowing things down, I'm bringing the rally car for some practice. Also, tires are cheaper to hit than trees/walls, so you might want to leave those where they are - assuming they're placed there for that reason. I'm sure Cheezbrgr will concur.

i'm trying to wrap my head around the level of awesome i'm seeing here. i'll drive up from GA if i have to.

good news - bunch of my buddies are in VA and haven't come to any events yet due to the distance. however, they always go to VIR for HPDEs. i'm going to bomb their inboxes with this video until they fold and come have a blast.

That depends if you're driving someone else's car or not :-)

I think the location and the size of the overall course will draw in a few more entrants. Once it is set in stone we can start "bombing" all the local forums and rally chat rooms to see if we can drum up some more folks also.

The plan is to put cones in 1 or 2 key areas to slow people down for safety reasons. The rest of the course will be defined by the mowed path as in the video. The course is huge but we won't need workers every 15 feet shagging cones.

As for the tires, most are on the infield path, not around the trees. I think part of the reason they exist is so they know where to mow. This place is scarcely used so the grass can grow quite tall between events!

Just remember that if you have a timer running, with awards for the fastest times, and you don't cone an apex and/or have a worker watching, people will be cutting. Even at the risk of destroying their car, by driving through tall grass that they have no clue what's in. I've seen this. I've also done the cutting part, but I had walked the course and made sure I knew how far I could cut without hitting anything.

Sorry for the low resolution of the uploaded video, we had to use the mobile version of the video to get it to load in a reasonable time. I'm not entirely sure how people manage to upload long race videos. If you know a trick to go from GoPro to YouTube drop me a PM. (I'm a newbie to the technology)

We have ran a portion of that course in the General Lei at NASA's Hyperfest some years back.

It had rained all week and the event day as well and it was like soup. I'm not sure how, but the portion we ran was some how 95% uphill. The General Lei was the only street-tired 2WD car (actually 1WD) that didn't get stuck! On the only downhill portion, there was a huge mud puddle at the bottom and we hit it hard enough to pop the grommets out of the floor pan and get water/mud in the foot wells.

Here's a picture with Stephen driving and myself riding shotgun:

Now I have to figure out how to get two cars to VIR!

Get the General up and running again VK ...... I think I can arrange transportation.

All he needs two new tires, four shocks and a little labor.

I don't the think anyone in the THSCC Rallycross program can argue the General Lei is one tough SOB. Sure he smokes about 4 packs a day, but as long as he's smoking we're still running!
