Nice weather, lots of fun, everybody was happy (well, not everybody - right, Pete?). Great food, great visiting instructor/ lunchtime speaker, lots of people getting a whole bunch faster during the day. And I got to drive the rally car - who wants to help me turn the 2.5RS into a 3.0RS?

And finally - anybody know Jim Munden? He lives across the woods from us, and on his way home from work yesterday he saw the "Rallyx school" sign & decided to see what was up. Pulled up in the yard & started asking about the rallyx, which made me a little nervous (thought I was going to hear about how it had disrupted his Saturday or something). When he said, "Was this a Tarheel Sports Car Club thing?" my mouth dropped open - not what I was expecting to hear. Jim is a founding member of THSCC, knows Bowie & a bunch of other guys I've never heard of, and used to do road rallye in the old days. He hasn't been an active member for a while, but he gets the newsletter to keep up on what we're doing. We stood out in the yard & talked for a long time, and I invited him to come check out the rallyx on the 22nd. Don't know if he'll be there due to his work schedule, but if you meet him, make sure you let him know how much you appreciate the old-timers who started this for all of us. Funny - Christine asked him what kind of cars they drove back then, and he replied, "anything with 4 wheels." Sounds like some things never change...

I had an absolute blast this past saturday at the school. Who knew a gti could hang the ass out that much! I learned a lot and think I was finally getting the hang of things by the end.

I'm a little sad I won't be able to make it on the 22nd, but ill definately be back in the future.

Sorry I missed it, I am such and idiot... I was talking to my wife saturday morning and did not even realize that it was the 8th.. sorry...

No doubt the Rally-X school was a success. We had great weather and all the students seemed to have a good time. I think most of the students got at least 20 or more runs. Would that be fun at an Auto-X or what? Having a hot lunch provided by two very nice ladies (thanks Christine and Brenda) was a plus as well.

Since only three cars were doing the instructor test-n-tune/fun run session, I think I got over 20 runs myself. Course was pretty rutted up by then though so it wasn't quite as fun as it could have been, but for the admission price I paid I wasn't complaining. The Cav did an OK job, and after the abuse I'm glad it wasn't my car. Glad I brought four extra wheels with me to the event also.

Funny thing happened to the car though. Somehow Stephen got ran off the road by a mysterious 18-wheeler (on his trip camping trip Saturday) causing him to go in the ditch and hit a stump, which in turn bent the wheel and flattened the tire.

I tried to get the guys plate # but there was a cloud of dust coming from behind him and I couldn't see it. It was actually a pick up truck and he looked to be in a bit of a hurry. He was towing a trailer that had some beat up old black corolla on it with the windshield out of it...looked like it had seen better days......

I was very happy with the number of "Ah ha!"s that my students had.

Lots of good driving, and plenty of open minds for this different style of driving.

I also want to thank Kevin and crew for the work getting all this put together. Bravo!

I'm also happy that I could offer drives of my car to visiting instructor Rob Bergstrom (in payment for driving down from VA to teach), and to Kevin (in payment for some photos he took of Amy, myself, and the car).
