Many of you old timers know Dave Blum and Matt Johnson. Well, looks like Dave let Matt "borrow" his Fairmont wagon to win the National RallyCross championship in 2WD this year!!!

Dave told me that the wagon was just sitting in the shop with a broken transmission, Matt asked him if he knew of any 2WD race cars for sale locally that might be good for RallyX and Dave said "you can run the Fairmont, just drop a transmission in it". Matt ended up doing just that, he had the tranny replaced, changed the suspension to give the car a little more ground clearance, added some mudflaps and lined up some sponsors and went racing!!

I'm sure there are more links out there, so feel free to post up, but here are a couple that I found:

thats a great story!

i was talking to sebastian about it. apparently the fairmont is a beast, you can see some videos on youtube, or maybe it was his facebook, that showed it killing all of the other cars on the hole shot.

That car is awesome! If anyone sees any Fairmonts around for cheap (sedan or wagon, or equivalent Lincoln/Mercury - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fairmont), they are awesome derby cars in 4 or 6-cyl class. I've got a friend who would love to buy one... :)

After I bought tires from Matt, I emailed to invite Matt and Bob Wahl to our October RallyX at OCS, but never heard back. Not sure if Matt stays in the area long. If anyone else talks to them for anything - invite them out!
