Maria and I may not be able to get the Dirtbomb put back together in time for Sunday, and I wanted to have a backup plan so as to not miss any of the exciting rallycross action. (And get the attendance numbers up.)

Is there anyone with a co-drive available for myself, and optionally Maria?

We're making good progress on the clutch repair, but with the temperature being so hot, its been difficult to make progress in an un-airconditioned garage.

Alternatively, if anyone close to Chapel Hill would like to "supervise" the clutch repairs that would help too.

Thanks Jeremy! I'm not in the running for year-end points in N04 so it doesn't really matter. We'll be working on the car until late Saturday so if its OK with you can I let you know Saturday night? I want to push hard to get my car ready, but not so much that we screw something up.

hot garage. hard to work long hours in a hot garage... though.. help of some sort is needed. I am busy with the sentra build. But best of luck Micheal, doing work in 100 degrees is not any fun.

Its complicated, and the first time is taking 3x's as long. The manual is one thing, and a filthy rallycross beater is another.

Got up at dawn to beat the heat and got the flywheel and clutch installed, and will attempt to mate the transmission back with the engine tonight. Hopefully with two jacks I'll be able to get the transmission at the right height and angle.

As a reference point, Greg McCance changed out the transmission on his '02 ESP WRX beast at the Blytheville ProSolo in under 3 hours, including swapping over the original center differential :)

Granted, he's only done it about 20 times ;) - AB

Damn, I didn't even know such a thing as a "transmission jack" existed! From the pictures it would make the job quite a bit easier.

I was just reading the clutch installation instructions, and noticed a break in period of 300-400 miles when you're supposed to baby the clutch. Even if we got this finished on Saturday, there wouldn't be enough time to get that many miles on it. How important is the break in for a clutch? Would putting it in, driving to a rallycross, and participating in a rallycross screw it up?

Driving to the race is a good bit of miles isn't it? If you can get it done any sooner then you can go for a stroll. Plus the only real strain it'll have is off the launch. Just don't ride it.

I agree. I've put in a new clutch and drove 45 minutes to the drag strip and ran the car. Just take it easy launching for a while and you will be fine.
