Blasphemy! He HAD to go break the SE-R Class spec. Well, I think this is easy enough to get him thrown out of SU2. :)

I love it! ;)

Just a modded Sentra E
1.6L 110HP
welded diff
It has suspension of GXE 4 door to get higher spring rates
KYB GR2 struts
Cone forced air induction

Charlie had some better times than me in the afternoon driving Ed's true SE-R. The extra power surely helped get through sandy area.

The course for fast, fun, and challenging. It was nice to see full use of the field. To have average 75sec courses and carry moderate to fast speeds throughout was a challenge to layout (and drive) for sure. There was a lot more clay out there than one might think. We'll have to remember those areas for the next event there. Certainly the veins of sand are a challenge to design around. There was only a few spots that degraded. Catching air in the crossover ditch was fun, if not cheek tightening, especially with a left turn immediately following.
I have to say a lot of cones were used despite comments on another thread. But that's ok, I didn't hit a one of them. 8)
At the risk of jinking myself. Le Tigre remains undefeated so far in SU2 class in 2010.

Thanks again.

Chris:

Thanks for the feedback!

1. School the day before, so once they are out, I didn't want to pick them up until the afternoon. Point noted, however.

2. I think SU2 is now officially "Spec SE-R". Congrats on your SE-R win!

We, THSCC needs to maintain this course before the next time we return, or we will not be able to use the WHOLE field again, due to ruts. Is there anything else we can do to get out there and fix these issues before they grow over? If I have time before the baby, and I am more than willing to go donate the time (and the time to clean the bus). Someone just let me know, and I am there. I just don't have the time to coordinate all that, right now.

Guys,

I have a tractor and a box blade (aka- "heavy iron thing you pull behind it") but it's in the shop right now. I'll be out of town this weekend camping with my son's cub scout pack, but I intend to go over the course with the box blade as soon as we get the tractor back from the shop.

I can't say it'll be smooth as glass, but I think I can get the ruts taken care of and get everything else smoothed over pretty good before the grass starts growing again.

you could let me drive the car while you ride along Walter. it might not be fast but it will be pushed. 8)

I don't want the tires to get flat spotted. So, NO!

Thanks for all your work making the Laser the monster that it is, its ridiculous fun now. I just gotta figure out how to be fast and clean at the same time :banghead: Enjoy the win old man I don't intend to allow you another though.

Regardless of my coneage, I had a blast, thats most fun I've had at BMW farm, kudos to Brian for setting up a great course.

Bret:

If you have a time/date in mind, just let me know. It sounds like you are willing to supply the hardware, and I am not adverse to supplying the grunt work (even if the tractor doesn't have brakes!).

It would seem like this would be the best time to fix a few ribbons so a few future events could be ran there, especially in the back left of the field.

Thanks for the event site and the use of wonderful facilities.

Brian,

I can't give a date right now, but I'm planning to take care of it myself once we get the tractor back from the shop.

Sorry been busy with work and trying to sell a car, so didn't have a chance to post.

Those courses ROCKED! I'll admit I was a bit skeptical during the course walks, but I quickly realized that I was looking at the courses remembering the poor grip from the last muddy event there. In the dry, on R700 tires the grip was amazing in the non-sandy spots.

I have set events up in that field before and I know it's a big challenge to get something that flows and isn't scary upsetting to a car. Considering that the worst car damage was a few debeaded tires (*cough* charlie *cough*) I think that the pains that Brian, Koroush, and others went through during inital setup and at lunch were worth it.

The competition was great fun -- 0.002 seconds over 6 combined runs? That's gotta be the closest we've ever had. Nice driving Brian! I'm sure that if you didn't have Baby Brain going on you would have easily taken the win :)

FYI -- lots of use NO4ers have been talking tires. Here's what I think we came up with:

- R700s work awesome in dry packed stuff with the big inflexible blocks
- Winterforce tires are king in wet and mud since the siped tread blocks squirm to shed mud
- All the other "square" block rally tires seem to be a good compromise for various course conditions, but R700s and Winterforces seem to have the advantages listed above

Good times, see you guys May 8. I pray for dry conditions since I'm on R700s :)

Hey Bret, I have a question. It might even be a dumb question :)

It's been pointed out that there are "ribbons" of sand apparently overlaying nice hard packed red clay. In some spots where the clay was predominant, there were black marks visible at lunchtime.

If you go deep enough is it all clay? And how deep? I just wonder if it's possible, instead of pushing the sand berms back onto the course, would it be possible to push the sand away from the areas we run? This might get us closer to a "semi permanent" course setup, which would have some advantages...

Bret I assume you're still using the field for grazing, and I have no idea what that does to your ability to grow grass or let the cattle use the land.

Just a thought though. I think all the rallyx'ers can agree that sand sucks and clay kicks butt though.

Aren't the R700s discontinued? I couldn't find them on Tirerack :-(

i think mike has an older style, right? he said hes had them for a few years.

the gravel style tires are pretty much what everyone is running. they wont work very well in the mud since the grooves are smaller and the knobs are closer together. thats why i cut my grooves bigger, and it helped a lot.

to be honest, if i didnt have 2 sets of rally tires, i would buy a set of used (not very used) snow tires from criagslist and just use the tire groover and cut them a bit. that would be a very inexpensive way of having very good tires.

Mike,

In general, most of the farm pastures are sandy for the first ~12-18", then red clay below that. I'm not opposed to making the pastures more useable for RallyX, but their main function (~360+ days per year) is for cattle grazing- so anything I do has to be compatible with that.

I don't really have the equipment (read: Bulldozer or Motorgrader) to push the sandy soil away and I don't know where to put the sandy soil that would have to be pushed off. Besides, doing so would virtually lock in the course so it would take the same equipment (Bulldozer, etc) to make any real course changes.

It's a good thought, but I just don't think it's practical. I've said this before, but some of the most fun I've had in a RallyX was trying to find the fast way through the soft, rutted stuff. I think it's wishful thinking to be able to have a hard packed course 100% of the time with what we've got to work with.

No. That was all I had. The better driver won! Good job, Whitney!

And, thank you to everyone, including the site owner who helped weld a shifter back together  !

It was a great weekend, and I hope this continues through out the year!
