I had an experience that shot my confidence in Performance Chassis, too. (I think the same day as you.) They were doing an alignment and told me that both of my front tie rods were "locked up" and needed to be replaced. When I reminded them that they replaced the passenger side one just last year, the story changed to "actually, it's just the driver side one."
