So the new (well new to me) Miata needs the 60K timing belt/water pump service. I've seen the timing belt kit for $77 and the water pump for $68...all OEM Mazda parts. Where do you other Miata folks buy your OEM Mazda parts on-line? I assume (I know...uh oh) that anywhere on-line would be cheaper than the dealer not to mention the conveinence factor.

Is there still a Mazda-speed aprts program? Seems that I recall people ordering direct from Mazda for very good prices.

Call Mazda Comp... er MazdaSpeed... and see what you have to do to get registered with a car you are "building" to race. (Assuming you plan to autocross the thing).

Their number is: 1-800-435-2508

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/display ... MazdaSpeed

With membership to this, you get special prices on OEM parts. For me, I just send them 2 sets of results from each Miada every year to keep the membership current. There is a program for cars yet to be raced, though I don't know the specifics.

edit - you have fun with that Timing Belt... ;-)

Mazdaspeed will accept two autocross results within the last tweleve months. Of course, you need to be driving a Mazda in those events which might take you a couple of months.
Besides the deal on parts, they now also offer the "S" price for new vehicle purchases.
Trussvile, etc. are good for OEM parts too.
Two websites you should know:
www.miata.net
www.flyinmiata.com

Go here: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/display ... ontingency

To be eligible to purchase discounted stock and competition parts, you must register in the Mazdaspeed Team Support Program, and be able to provide two race results per year, or you must be building your car, and able to prove membership in a racing organization.

Then go here: http://www.mazdamotorsports.com/webapp/ ... eamSupport and read more about it.

If your race car is currently under construction, the race results requirement will be temporarily waived if you can provide a copy of your racing club membership card (SCCA, NASA, etc.). You will be required to provide a completion date for the first race you plan to compete in. You will need to provide race results from your first event within 30 days after the competition.

I doubt any place can beat their prices on MAZDA parts, but if you find one, please please please let us all know. The few non-MAZDA OEM replacement parts I've looked at were not significantly lower priced enough for me to risk going with non-MAZDA parts (I want no question of legality.). YMMV.

The timing belt kit is Contitech, and OEM supplier. And the water pump is GMB. I can get you the exact OEM pump, Atsugi for $60.

My bad, Diane is correct - I forgot about the "building a car" option. I started my post before reading hers. At least that's my story ...

Vincent: Remember to get the gasket kits, not sure what's in the "timing belt kit". You'll need the Cam cover kit, Cam seals, crank seal, as well as the CAS O-ring (I bet that if you feel behind your motor you'll find your CAS is leaking oil. Probably the only place your Miata will ever leak). Tensioner and idler pulleys too.
Seems to me that once you're "in there" you want to get it all including the water pump. The parts are cheap compared to going back in there before the next belt at 120,000 miles.
Did you know that the California cars have the same belt and Mazda warranties it for 105,000 miles?

Vincent:
for a local source, Capital Mazda of Cary gives THSCC -15% on OEM parts. They're open Saturday until 1:00PM.
I bought my timing belt from them on 6/6/03. THSCC cost was $37.61 +Tax. The cam cover gasket was $21.21. Water Pump was $63.71.

Also got the 15% deal on all of those hoses that you're gonna change when you take the engine down. That will save you some bucks.

Remember to get some of the Permatex "Black" sealant for use when you re-install the cam cover.

Last I knew Mazda Comp does not carry maintenence parts like timing belts, hoses, etc.
