So does the ABS need to be functional for a car to pass inspection? I'm guessing it doesn't, since rally cars are road legal & most of them have ABS removed.

I read the state inspection instructions for brakes, and it sounds like ABS system disabled/removed would cause the car to fail, though.

:whoknows:

Anders, George, anyone else?

Kevin, for a while, the ABS was non-functional in my Volvo. The ABS light was burned out, but it always passed inspection. - AB

The MIL (CEL) and ABS are independent of each other (at least on a GM car) so my car passed with the ABS light on.

My guess is it should pass.

I can tell you from my experience the answer is no.

My trucks ABS hasn't worked (and the light IS on tell you so) in about 3 years, but has passed inspection every time.

Okay, thanks. I'll be getting it inspected tomorrow.

Actually, I won't. I looked at the registration this afternoon and it says inspection isn't due until Dec 31, 2009. So I removed the sticker and put the registration back in the dash storage compartment. Yay. :D
