Kieran's girlfriend's ZX3 made a funny noise shifting from 4th to 5th a week ago and then the clutch would not operate properly - it was not disengaging from the flywheel properly.

After spending most of the day last Sunday pulling it apart, we found this...

One of the two smaller springs had completely failed. The loose part you see was bouncing around inside the clutch casing, the other half you can see has wedged itself inside the left spring.

Never seen this type of failure before.

Simon

Have not had this happen to me, but I have seen photos like that before. I don't know how common that problem is.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Looks like neat garage-art to me. I'd hang that puppy up!

BTDT with a Beetle clutch - luckily it didn't fall out like that.

I think when I have seen this before it was with either a VW or Porsche clutch.

I had a 510 clutch plate do that. I think that was the year I put 50,000 miles of pizza delivery service on the car along with running ever THSCC auto-x.

Can you say rough duty?
