So I have been looking for a 4.3 torsen to put in my 99 Miata, and posted on miata.net...
I have been offered one at a price I think is reasonable, but now some dubious details have come out and I am not sure it's worth it. Here's what the guy wrote to me:
Quote:
The 99 came out of wreck, so one of the arms was broken. The 94 case was good, so I stuck the 99 diff in the 94 case. I replaced the two axle seals.
It's ready to bolt in. The cases are basically the same. I had already cleaned up the 94 case and semi-polished it. I even put new axle seals in it.
I seem to remember that in a '99+ Miata open diff to LSD would have been a direct swap, but that in NAs the torsen came in a larger housing and required a swap of the half-shafts and possibly even a different drive-shaft.
I am looking to have to buy (and install) as few parts as possible, and this sounds weird/sub-optimal to me. What do you guys think?
