That's what it says on the old bottle I have and that's what's in my car. I want to refresh the brake fluid before my next rally and would like to use this stuff again.

I couldn't find it at my local...

AutoZone
PEP Boys
NAPA
Advance
Wal Mart

Does anyone know where else I can try?

Interestingly, Valvoline doesn't have it on their website.

Thanks.

Simon

I will have to look to make 100% sure. I may have about 1/2 A bottle in my garage. Not enough for a flush, but enough to top yours off. If you have still struck out, let me know and I will go digging.

I have a lot of that stuff.

It comes in plastic bottles though...I would be really impressed if a lot of moisture hasn't seeped through into the brake fluid.

The last time I looked for it, the N. Durham Autozone was out (or maybe they dropped it). I found it at the Advance Auto two blocks away.

I searched the Valvoline site and found this:
http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products ... roduct=138

The advertised 480 degree dry boiling point is 20 degrees lower than the stuff in the gold bottles.

The Advance site only shows the 480 degree stuff now. Suggest you call around to several stores and see if they have the gold bottles in stock, and start hoarding. For a price I'll relinquish my 4 unopened quart bottles :)

I have a half bottle of it but I'm reluctant to put it in the car if I can get some fresh stuff.

Art, William: I may be in touch.

Thanks.

So William was asking why I'm married to this stuff and I realize that I'm not really. Just wanted to avoid mixing fluids if possible.

If it's OK to mix Super Blue with the SynPower can anyone suggest a local source for SB brake fluid?

Thanks.

Simon

I think I have a fresh bottle of the Valvoline, and definitely a fresh bottle of Super Blue. I'll bring both to the Rally School - just switched over to SB at the last flush.

I have a 32 Fl. OZ bottole right here. It's beat up because it's been in the porsche. Right now it's what's in the porsche, but I switched the bmw over to Super Blue and I'll buy more of that for the 944 soon. I'll bring it to rallyx school if someone wants it; it is 90% full.

I'd appreciate a small donation to the Minus One tire fund as trade, though. :D

Maybe I'm being paranoid but I always toss any left over brake fluid if I don't use it all in one application. I had a few bad experiences with previously opened bottles of brake fluid I stored several years ago and the stuff is cheap enough that it doesn't seem to be worth it to risk any potential contamination.

To be more specific, I didn't store the fluid for more than a couple of months at a time but each time it resulted in braking issues for me in a performance application. It may not matter much for a street car and I wasn't using synthetic fluid but it was enough to convince me not to keep it around for a vehicle I was going to run hard. :whoknows:

That's the general rule that I've always followed as well. I also use the Valvoline Synthetic, but after it's been opened I don't use the remainder of what I don't need.

My Synpower wasn't fresh, but I will bring the unopened bottle of Super Blue. I'll have time to replace it before I need more.

Yep. That's where I am now - I have an opened bottle of the stuff and don't see how it's any better than the stuff that's in the car. Hence my search for fresh.

This is for the rally car and my next rally (next week) is a 2 day tarmac event. I expect to be much harder on my brakes than when not on tarmac.

OK. Art McDonald has graciously offered me his supply of the Valvomagic. He lives in N. Durham about 1 mile off 15-501. Since I'm not going to the rallyx would some kind soul who happens to be passing by pick up the brake fluid for me?

If you're able, please give me a shout and we'll sort it out.

Thanks.

Simon

Out of curiosity, what's the with interest in this specific fluid? Just that it has decent boiling points and is cheaper than good fluid? Any reason not to go with something like ATE Typ200 other than cost?

This seemed to be the best of the fluids you (used to be able to) buy off the shelf at a chain auto parts store, with no issues mixing with conventional DOT 3. I never tried using it on track.

Good luck to Simon in next weekend's rally!
