Got a little bit of an issue and looking for some input. One of my MSD wires was rubbing and started to short out on Sunday. Anyone at the TT probably heard the car running on 7 cylinders (still turned a 1:11).

Now there is no where in this stupid area to get a set of the MSD 8.5mm wires. So my three options are:

1) replace the one wire with an 8mm wire from Autozone. They do actually have single wires available.
2) replace all eight with stock like 7mm wires.
3) tape the wire in question up.

The motor is stock with an aftermarket high output MSD coil.

The caveat is, the car is loaded and I am off to Summit Point first thing Friday morning. Yea, I know I should have addressed this Tuesday when I first discovered it and not last night.

Have you checked with Tires and Parts in Raleigh and see if they had them?? Also Ashworths in Fuquay, he builds alot of race engine for round track guys and sells parts also??

I would think if need be, the 8mm to fix the one and only issue would be the way to go right now.

The only difference between the 8mm and the 8.5mm wire is the amount of insulation on the wire itself. I'd go with the single wire and keep some around as spares (as you've already planned on doing most likely).

That is a very important lesson I am learning. When I replaced the motor, I took off the accel wires and tossed them, replacing them with the MSD wires. As a friend told me after crashing his Mustang, keep all of your old parts. Someday they may be better than what you have on the car.

Everything is a live and learn with racing Jim. I'm betting over time with the MR2, you kept an extra set of new crash bolts with you at all times as well :) - AB

+1 for Steve Ashworths in Fuquay. the Bowtie seems to be their speciality.

I ran that MR2 at the national level for 6 years and never wrenched on it as much as the race car in the past year.

Fuquay is a foreign country to those of in north raleigh though. But I will put them on my list of places to hit up in the off season.

I've never had any problem with 8mm Accel wires. I always bought a V-8 set, cut to fit, then had two sets since I only have 4 cylinders. I bet they have a V-8 set on the shelf for your application (Advance carries them).
