Stop me if you've heard this already  -

Getting Azenis this Friday - some AXers on another forum make a big deal about getting them through a good heat cycle, then putting the car on jackstands and letting them cool for 24hrs. I'd just take them off the car and put my other wheels back on.

Is this really going to make a difference in the life and/or performance of the tires, or is this another 0.01sec kind of thing I shouldn't even bother with yet?

Assuming they aren't shaved, you'll definitely want to drive around on them to get the mold release out. It isn't a huge deal so if you don't have the opportunity to do it, you'll be fine. They will feel a little slippery if you don't and you'll probably be giving up 1/2 a second or so. That's assuming you are getting the most out of them anyway.

Your best bet is to bolt them on a few days before your next event and just drive the car normally. It will save an extra tire change at the event and you can swap to your regular tires afterwards for the drive home.
