Been running Mobil 1 in my car (both myself and the previous owner), but someone on a Focus forum has been raving about Amsoil and thier high mileage synthetic (he runs 35k between oil changes).

Anyone here have experiences good or bad w/ Amsoil?

Amsiol makes good stuff. As long as the oil meets the requirements for your make and model it's okay to use it. Many people make oil brand and type more of an issue than is really necessary. The best way to tell if your oil is working well for your motor is to get an oil analysis. I get one every six months. Redline FTW!

Picking oil brands is like picking ice cream flavors. Highly subjective. I've used Mobil 1, RedLine, and Royal Purple. I'm sticking with the RP. I've got it in the engine, trans, diff and it works very well. That said. Pick any of the above, including Amsoil. Run it, send a sample in to Blackstone or other lab, see what the report looks like. You'll find engine issues and oil issues if there are any. I can't see a good argument for any one of the above other than which one you can get for the best price.

I ran the Amsoil Euro 5w40 in the M3 for a 10k interval w/ filter changes at 3300 and 6600 (2min swap in the M3). I autoxed a full season+, 3 track events, and daily drove it. the analysis said keep on keepin on. hah

So Amsoil at 10k intervals w/ filter changes in between is what i do now.

I run Amsoil in all our newer cars - the one's that don't leak or burn oil.
I run it 25,000 miles or one year in Helen's mini van, but we've never gone that far in a year. Greenville is small and everything is close. we get to work in under 10 minutes!
I change it twice a year in the Camaro, but I don't go 5,000 miles a year in it. I'll change it this week after getting it so hot at VIR.
My oil temps got at least 280 this weekend. My oil pressure stayed at 60 and I was pleased. I've never had a problem with Amsoil.
I think Royal Purple is excellent too, but I've never used it. I'm not so sure about Mobil One.
