I'm considering purchasing a 318ti with a bad engine. What are some of the possible swaps besides an ls-1  ?

can also do a 330 or 328 swap. But m3 is def the nicest looking under the hood.

Sacrilige I know, but it's probably best to keep it in the family- just do a BMW to BMW swap. An S50/52 would be nice, as Mike mentioned- though an m50 would be cheaper and not much of a HP loss from the S50/52. And it's pretty easy (as swaps go) because the front of the car is 100% E36 which came from the factory with all sorts of engines in there.

My daily driver is a '96 318ti, bought it (err, "rescued" is more like it) from a guy in the Charlotte area a couple of months ago. I was also considering an engine swap, but I kinda like the 32+ MPG I've gotten on the last 2 trips we took.
