I have a fox mustang and am looking to stiffen the chassis on top of being safer. The problem that I am running into is that most cage/roll bars are designed for drag racing. One main hoop with rear and door struts. Any ideas on if this is BAD. I am a forester not a mechanical engineer.

thanks
jp

Call Chris. Almost everyone in our club that has a cage has one from him.

If you want to stiffen a Fox, install subframe connectors. A cage or rollbar in a street driven car with non-fixed seats isn't a good idea. The c-c Plastic Spoon is down right now, but that would be another good place to check.

That reminds me of Randy Melton's Mustang. He had more braces and suspension stuff bolted to the underside of his car than seemed necessary. I wonder if all that stuff was legal for ESP.

Typical drag race bars are:
6pt vs. 4 pt.
do not use a harness and/or diagnal support bar.
use smaller size tubing than requred by SCCA-TT or (THSCC Tech Guide).

For what it would cost to modify one, given right size tubing,
you could have one made for your Mustang to fit you by Chris or buy a Mustang TT Spec roll bar from Autopower.

There are a lot of added concerns if it's a daily driver. You will, of course, lose the back seat, and would have to use seat back braces or FIA rated seats. There is no bulkhead to support the seat back. Since you don't
wear a helmet in daily driving, you have to prevent the possibility
if your head hitting the roll bar in a rear end collision. There
is a lot of room in the Mustang to work with so I would have one
custome made that would utilize that room. You can use
the rear upright supports to reinforce the rear suspension mounting
point area. Sub-frame connectors are not legal in Street
Prepaired. Street Mod Rules will give you plenty of flexability
bulding a street legal track car with the reinforcements you are looking
for.

Hope this helps

SFCs from a Fox convertible are SP legal. They're just not as stout as Maximum Motorsports SFCs.
