Gladiator Floor Coverings

I know there have been a bunch of threads about floor coverings. I am moving to a new house at the end of the month and looking at this stuff. I don't remember anyone mentioning it before, but just curious if anyone has experience with it.

Steven,

It looks similar to the Race Deck knock off (which was still more than this is) that we used for our paddock floor back when I was wrenching on the race bikes. We loved it. Pretty easy to snap together and VERY durable. If you get it, let me know how you like it. I want something like this in the garage when we finally buy a new house.

only thing negative i have heard about Race Deck is spillage of fluids. but wiping up quickly seems to take care of that. i was talking to a guy who has installed several of the floors like mine Stephen and he says they can be patched back in if they get tore up.

the initial install is very labor intensive but relatively inexpensive. under $300 for materials.

My one thought on this gladiator flooring is, I can take it with me next time I move. I am wondering how reasonable that is though, if it will be too beat up after 5-6 years and not worth it

i have the Rust-O-Leum brand epoxy paint. got it at Lowes i think.

the guy i was talking to has used it for a while and likes it. he said the tan patches in better than the gray however.

proper floor prep is critical.

Labor intensive? More so than the epoxy prep? Snapping grid squares together sounds like, well, a snap!

The only issue I see with the race deck type flooring. You'll need a decent size jacking plate for using a jack and some plates for jack stands. By themselves the jack stands will puncture the flooring.

I like the idea of the Rust-O-Leum floor covering. Just wonder how long it will last without lifting or staining from liquid spills. I need to do something this spring. My floor looks like someone works on cars... and spills stuff...

i looked again, and i have the QuikCrete brand. however the box is almost identical to Rustoleum.

Graham, i use pieces of plywood under my jackstands to better distribute the weight.

What do you need jackstands for? So you can safely climb under the car and look at Dave's work?

I used Sherwin Williams Rexthane industrial coating. A moisture curing 1 part urethane goes down directly on clean concrete, no primer or top coat needed. VERY tough! I will use it to coat the floor of our new trailer as well, it sticks to wood, concrete, metal. SW recommends it for use in airplane hangers, prisons, cafeterias, water tanks.
