Anyone know a good welding shop or collision place? My rear shock tower is torn badly. The shock bolts have basically fallen through. Shadetree recommended Paragon but I want to call around.

Thanks!

PJ, you may have bigger issues. i use Dave's Automotive. he does some minor welding i believe. has Shadetree made any suggestions on reinforcing the mounts?

if you know exactly what you need, there is always R&J.

I'm pretty sure I'll have to weld in a new portion of the tower.

Steve had that really nice trailer and all that is in is an air compressor to change his tires with, a microwave oven to warm up his cup of noodles and Dave's phone number.

Out of curiosity, why did the shock mount fail? Were the bushings solid and the bolts tight? Or is it possible the car had been driven (and or autocrossed) with bad shock mounts and/or loose nuts?

they are original RSMs. I checked them when I bought the car and thought they were okay. I was about to order new ones too.

Give K&E a call. Dave Blum is one of the best welders I've ever seen- he's a fabricating expert and they should be able to take care of this for you. Not cheap- but they know what they're doing.

That's debateable, but I know what you're saying.

But, in this case, it really doesn't matter if it's a Yugo or a BMW- it's a torn shock tower- so the repair will be mostly welding and maybe splicing in an undamaged section.
