I got some Pirelli PZero Neroes recently - just a few hundred miles ago - for the STi. 225/45/17. Installed the wheels & tires on the car & everything was fine. Due to some swapping around, maintenance, etc. blah blah blah, the tires ended ups getting rotated in an X pattern. Suddenly, the STi wanted to pull extremely hard to the left whenever I accelerated (the harder the acceleration, the harder the pull), and there was a constant very slight pull to the left when cruising or decelerating. Since the only change was the rotation of the tires, and I couldn't find anything obviously wrong with the car, I rotated them back to where they were previously. Now it's back to normal.

I can't find anything wrong with either the wheels or tires, and yes, I checked the pressures. :P

So what the Hell? :?

My guess is you have 1 tire on the rear that is mismatched as far as diameter to the others. Try rotating front to rear keeping the same sides. If it pulls to the right I would bet you then have a bad tire on the right front. The belts could have also been laid wrong on that tire. I have had a problem with that in years past. I had to replace that one tire.

Also check the size on all the tires. I had 3 of one size and 1 of another size put on my Mazda truck once. I did not spot it until the next day.

I say quit fiddling with them- just wait 'til they burn up or take a vacation......I hear Rome is nice this time of year.

(Maybe Mark at HH&W could help.)

Well, I got them from Cosby's friend Jeb at Discount Tire in Cary (Apex?), and they have free replacement warranty on them, so I'll be dropping them off with him next week sometime to figure out what's wrong.

They're all the same size, btw. That would fall under the category "obvious" I think.

Kevin,

Try switching them back to the fronts and cross them. If the pull goes to the other side, we have a radial pull/bad tire. Defintely a defect that would be covered under the certificates. I am in all week, so let me know.

What were you like 4 years old when that movie came out???

I'm still kinda disappointed that no one commented on my witty reply above. It took me 3 hours to think of that one......

That was quality work there, Bret.

With the ecclectic group that we have here, I'm sure that there wasn't a single person that didn't get that (except maybe PJ. )

Oh, and I was 12 thank you very much.

Well, it's not the tire. Apparently there's something wrong with the wheel than can't be detected visually. Maybe some gremlins burrowed into it and patched the holes behind them, and they're leaning to whichever side of the car the wheel is mounted on...

Or maybe not.

Who can look at this POS wheel and tell me what's wrong with it?

Did they dismount the tire and do a spin test to check for it being true?

I did not see this mentioned(Nor did I read all the posts :) )
Do you have a brake or wheel bearing dragging? That will really make a car pull.

That would be obvious, wouldn't it?

I have two sets of these wheels, and the other set, with Avon summer tires on them, causes no problems at all in any rotation pattern. Only when the wheel in question is placed on the front of the car (with either set of the wheels at the other corners) does a problem exist.

If they have a Hunter 9700 balancer, they can put the bare rim on it and measure the runout axially and radially. It will store the data on the spin run and allow you to see exactly where on the rim the problem lies by rotating it slowly afterward. (Not that it does you much good at this point other than ensuring in your mind that the wheel is bunk).

I think Mark's machine at H&H can tell you if it is bent without taking the tire off.

You probably just broke your diff. :P
