Seems I have 2 choices for connecting rods.

1) New, Eagle forged rods, $300, that includes ARB rod bolts.

My understanding is that these are ready to go out of the box, balanced, and everything.

2) Used, but prepped...

I have a selection of OEM rods to chose from (8 of them), I can have them refurbished, that includes shot peening, magnafluxing, sizing, etc. I'm wondering though, if by the time I pay the machie shop to do all of this, would I just be better off spending a few extra dollars and getting the forged rods. Add $40 to the machine shop work for a set of ARP rod bolts.

I'm not planning turbo or nitrous or anything like that, but on the other hand, I don't think the forged ones will cause any reliability issues.

Anyone pay to have a set of rods prepped lately?

Scott

In my experience, if the OEM rods are steel, go ahead and have em reconditioned, if they haven't broken by now they never will. If they are aluminum throw em away, Al has a life cycle limit: the longer you use them the more likely you are to reaching it's failure point so it's russian roulette to keep using them.
