So, will 275/40/17 Hoosier A6's (should be the same basic size as A3S04 and A3S05) fit on a stock STi without rolling the fenders and without rubbing anything badly?

All you ever want to know about wide tires on an STi.

Donnie, you're killing me!! You don't need to be any stickier.

BTW, was that you or Eric that slid through the last V and lose the magnet? Either way, it was pretty impressive watching all 3 of you running that course

I think that was me that lost the magnet...I don't remember the slide in question, but I'll take your word for it. ;)

That was our first event out with the Addco front bar and the Koni singles. We were on 245 S05's that had plenty of rubber, but heat cycled out due to age after the morning runs. Car was pretty damned balanced and felt great in the morning (had a hint of push through the sweeper that cost us time, but transitioned really well), but in the afternoon it was wildly loose.

So what's different between a 2004 and a 2005 STi? It appears the fenders are basically factory "rolled" already which allows for the 275's, but is there anything else significant? As in, can I move my struts (WRX struts with Koni singles in them) and my Addco bar to a 2005 with no trouble? What about my cat-back exhaust?

If I can move everything, I'm going to have to start looking for a car. :)

I am not sure about the struts. I know they changed something from 04 to 05 when it comes to the struts. The 05 also has 8 inch wide wheels instead of 7.5 inch wide wheels on the 04. Better steering rack mounting for better initial turn in. Your Addco bar will definitely swap along with your cat-back.

Fender rolling isn't legal in stock classes, and I want to keep the car AS legal (yeah, I know I've been asking about tires for STU, but that's just to have some street tires I can race on if I want to).

Hmm, wonder how I find out about the struts.

You would not be able to use the struts. They changed the entire hub and wheel bearings. The bar and the exhaust should work no prob.

The 05 steering rack has a solid mounting brackets instead of the the rubber bushings and a power steering cooler. It also has a helical front lsd, an ayc, and different center diff map. That's all I can remember.

Dammit. So there's now no way to put AS legal adjustable shocks on it? The only thing I knew that existed was the WRX strut with Koni singles in it. Everything else I have seen on the market was a full spring and shock package. :(

Well, let me rephrase...there's no *easy* way to do it. I can always have a complete custom strut built. But ugh.

Well, the other question is on the stock shocks...is the valving on the '05's any better than the '04? I *hated* the stock ride quality on the '04 and really like it with the Konis now. Just jarred too much with the stock shocks.

Short answer -- no.

The 05s are just as over damped/undersprung as the 04s and 06s.

Scroll down and check out the fixed perch ohlins strut. Kinda spensive. I imagine you could get them valved any way you want by ohlins. The spring perch should be at the stock height.
