today was 'get aquainted' day w/ the M3 so i changed the oil (went w/ amsoil 5w40, no ticking so far), brake pads (swapped back to OEM, CDV delete, and flushed clutch/brake fluid.

the CDV is a goofy little valve that acts like a damper on the clutch line and slows its response. its supposed to reduce drivetrain shock but in reality it just robs clutch feel and makes you look like you cant drive a manual.

i thought i was still adjusting to the new car w/ my shaking shifts, etc. i was getting better but it wasnt quite like i wanted. so i read about the CDV delete and did it today. very easy, took literally 5min plus the time to bleed the system. it now feels as it should. like a normal clutch w/o any hiccups or quirks. much more direct and i can drive it perfectly.

i think a crap ton of BMWs have this so maybe look into deleting that sucker if you havent already

Well then I guess you should not sell you springs and X brace, as you have just removed yourself from Stock class

That's a mod I've been wanted to perform myself based on the benefits it seems to offer with a better clutch feel. I know it's not a legal move in stock, but is this legal in STS?

yeh yeh. i dont plan on turning pro any time soon so i dont think its a big deal. i almost didnt post it because i figured it was a violation of some miniscule autox rule somewhere, but ah well, honesty is the best policy and i wanted to encourage others to do it as it also saves clutch life because the valve allows the clutch to slip intentionally.

i think i'll be running STU so i'll ask the hackaroos if they care. its not a performance mod or anything, just a feel/safety thing

Hackaroo #1 doesn't care. If Kevin gives you crap, just let me know as I am sure I can find at least 3 things illegal on his car. :)

j.k Kevin.... or am i? :D ;)

Ps. In true racing tradition, if I lose to you, I will protest you. Obviously, it has everything to do with that if you win ;)

I say race with us. I have learned my lessons on letting people 'get away' with things. Sure, you want to be nice, and for things like this, I am more than willing to let it slide, but what if someone shows up and has something you think is insignificant, but can catch a few tenths?

When the classes are based on the rules, staying within the rules is the only thing that allows you to stay comparable to other people. Otherwise, you will always wonder 'what if' and it will bug ya. :)

Oh, and I actually LIKE the rules. Why? It keep you from spending $texas on the car. You have limitations, and it allows you to see how 'creative' you can get with the rules that you are given.

If you wanna do everything and put 20K into the car, go to SM :) You can do A LOT there. Also, think about Touring cars in SCCA racing. They are basically a car prepped between Stock and Street Touring/Street Prepared.

You need rules or money would dominate all (even more than it does now).

right, thats why i'm asking if its ok for BSP. i really dont want to put it back. this car is first my daily driver and second my fun/autox car. this improves the drivability enough that its not worth putting back to me.

if its BSP legal maybe i'll leave my car as it is and quit messing w/ it and just drive it. i'm not sure i want you guys holding illegal mods over my head and crap. unless maybe you told me some of your secret mods so its even :P

The way I read 15.10 G, it's probably not. - AB

You are border line BSP now. I think the change falls under 15.10.O. Otherwise, welcome to SM or Prepared. The question I have, why not replace the valve and see if that cures your shifting ills.

Another area to check is if BMW issued a Service Bulletin authorizing the removal of the valve.

Well, if you wont come to STU, maybe I will just add some boost to my car and move to BSP :)

Hmm... 80 more Lb/Ft and about 400 flywheel HP + 315s. I might have to think about that :)

This page has the 2005 Rules Book. I don't see the 2006 is out yet. I haven't seen a searchable html version. But the PDF is searchable in Adobe Reader.

If Adobe is crashing your computer then your computer has issues. Uninstall any old versions of Adobe Reader and get version 7.0.5. Do a custom install and don't select all the extended options. Just the base reader. And see what happens. Somewhere over in the Lounge I posted a note on how to trim the Reader down so it doesn't try to load a ton of libraries. Just the 3-4 needed to read and print. That will consume a lot less memory and overhead on your computer. Incase you have an old and tired computer.
