Well, I have gone off the deep end and got myself a new project. You can follow along on www.v8mongrel.com . The site is still in its infancy, but I have only had the car for ≈60 hours so cut me some slack!

I am told I am getting a Buick Rendezvous. No receiver. I tell the clerk I need a receiver, and he has no idea what that is. So I explain it. Still he has no idea. Then I make the mistake of saying it the part that a trailer hitch goes to. His corporate programming kicks in and he dutifully notifies me that towing is not allowed. Sensing it all about to slip between my fingers, I tell him it is not for towing, but for a bike rack. Thankfully at this point the lot driver arrives and I reiterate my cover story. He looks at me suspiciously and I say it is for bikes and I don’t want to get chain oil on the seats. He then runs to a competitor to get a Trailblazer and I think I am about on my way.

haha... classic

I have a couple more updates on the website for anyone interested. The car is moving faster than the site.

That picture of the "dual" fuel pumps should be your new avatar... interesting setup...

I am kind of confused by it. The car has been a hillclimb and time trial car AFAIK, not an enduro car, so the idea of a backup pump makes little sense. If the pump goes in a TT, you are done in terms of time. And the car has never needed more fuel than a single stocker can provide.

Holley time!

anyone have any experience with nitrous at autox and if there would be any way to work that in usefully? I know autox isnt really a power event (esp on the small courses) but if i do splurge and get a kit, it would be interesting to try it out...

nitrous is not allowed at an autox. The bottle has to be removed from the car.

Long time ago in the 80's when I was living in Quebec there was 1 guy with a Datsun 510 running in the modified class that had nitro on his 510.
When he wanted to do I quick run he was installing the soft Hoosier slick and turning On the Nitro. Believe me, the thing was fast. At the ' championats provincial ' the equivalent of the NCAC on the Saturday his gear ratio didn't really work good with the course, so on Saturday afternoon he had flown over a different diff. with a longer ratio. They install it Saturday night and where ready for Sunday's runs. The other fast car in the mod. class where a Vauxhall Viva with a Brabham engine an a Mini cooper S. I wonder what happened to these cars?

Jeb, is that your car?! That thing is COOL. I just bought a 2006 Mazda3 after much looking. I love it. The mods will stay with the Scirocco for now, but the time will come, the time will come.

I just ordered springs for the Scirocco, cutdown stockers are cheap but don't cut it when the chips are down. I got some H&R race springs thru TireRack, also after much searching. I will change the exhaust at some point just so I can hear it on video :). I may even pay for an alignment, as good as my string and framing square improv worked.
I also plan to add some guages, oil pres. & water temp., not really a mod but the info would be appreciated. A fan switch for sitting on grid is on the bench waiting to be installed. Also, if any one has a two liter and A2 intake laying around, I could remove it from your garage, as soon as the baby birds leave the nest they in my vans engine compartment. :)

Yep! That 3 is mine. Sounds like your V-dub is quite the project car. Have fun!

In the fun-per-dollar department, she has done me quite well. The springs will put me at a total investment of about $1200.

My new springs arrived today. On Thursday i will stick them in and maybe get it pro aligned on the next Thursday
Any thoughts on wheel spacers to increase the track? If they will give an improvement I will wait on the align and just string the car for now.
