I posted several months ago about scissor lifts. The time for me has come! I'm 90% sure that I'll be driving out to Greesnboro to pick one up from a place that has them in stock.

I thought I'd post here on the off chance that anyone else out there is interested in also picking one of these up and possibly trying for a discount on 2 or more, or even just interested in splitting gas money to have one picked up.

Thought I'd also share my experiences from shopping for a few years for lifts. The lift I've decided on is advertised on an ebay ad here:

The actual lift they have in stock for $1350 is a Hanmecson and it's black. Here's the website and brochure:

This is the exact lift that Greg Smith Equipment in IN sells for $1295. Here's a link and a better picture:

All of the 48-53" mid-rise lifts on the market are apparently near-exact copies of some original design that came out of a CA company and is now out of business. The Snap-on 48" lift is a little different. Bend-Pak is the other popular brand and seems to command a premium. The best deal on a 48" model appears to be from Harbor Freight for $1299+$50 shipping, but they are backordered for 3 months, and the repair/service/parts route seems questionable since the brand is shown ad "Central Hydraulics". I spoke with the people at Hanmecson and they seem like a real company.

FYI there are also a series of 36-40" max lift scissors out there too - HF has one for $895 and they appear on ebay occasionally. Snap-on also has one of these smaller lifts and it's what Adam has at BFI. The frame is narrower and shorter. I decided to spring the extra $400 for the higher model.

Anyone interested? When I get it and start to use it I'll share my experiences. I have a short-term plan to cut a hole in the floor, do some concrete work, and install it completely flush with a cover. When I'm not using a lift (most of the time!) I want it to disappear.
