Anyone have any experience or tips on painting a helmet? I have read that if you paint a helmet, that you should use "manufacture approved paint". I guess they are afraid of you using something that will break down/weaken either the shell, or the interior crushable material. I was just thinking that regular spray enamel would be fine.

I painted mine, it was white well mostly yellow from being a display model.

Used regualr rattle can, and its holding up great.

For my helmet, it is about 20% bling and 80% it would be helpful if it is not the same color (white) as most all of the other helmets laying around. I am just going to paint it something other than white. For my wife's new helmet, it was a deal on an off-color and we are going to paint it something else.

I used vinyl over the plain old white exterior. Turned out OK, but you can tell it's vinyl from about 5' and closer.

As for paint, remember that the surface of the helmet is smooth and very slick, so you may need to rough it up a bit to get it to hold paint. Then to get that shiny look back you'll probably need to wet sand and clear coat it.

Ditto that. I've had a totally rad blue star sticker package on my helmet for a few years and no one has ever confused my helmet with anyone else's.

Motorcycle shops have the best flashy sticker assortments.

Don't try to go to any of the "Biker Shop's" in town looking for a HELMET LAWS SUCK sticker though.

Apparently all of the yuppies with Harley's need to be politically correct.

At least I was able to get a sweet BMW logo for my helmet from the bike shop off 401.

I used stickers on mine. Smiley Faces... I know you're all shocked. Nobody's ever picked mine up by accident. :)

LOL... come visit up here. NH doesn't have a helmet law. I'm finally getting used to seeing people on bikes w/o helmets.
