The bus killed my old B&D circular saw!

Anyone know of a good deal on a decent "occasional use" replacement?

Thought I'd ask here before just going and picking something up at Home Depot.

Check the pawn shops. There are usually some high quality saws that were pawned by a drunken framer. :D

This is not to say that all Drunks are Framers.

I think Sam's club has Makita saws, they're hard to beat. The new Craftsman twin blade is da bomb tho. The main thing with a circular saw's performance and life is a high quality carbide tipped blade so don't cut corners there. On the other hand, I've gotten unexpectedly good service out of a blade I got at Lowes or HD, I forgot the brand (Vermont American?) but it's candy apple green color and the pkg says it's for pressure treated lumber, It has large ventilation holes cut in it which I credit with it's long life plus it costs <7.00 IIRC. Cocking the saw even slightly while cutting starts a cycle where the blade heats up and warps it that binds it even more and pretty soon you've killed the blade and the saw. If you hit a nail or other metal just throw the blade away it's dead.

Well, I had an $80 Sears gift card, so I picked up a $90 craftsman saw on sale with the fancy shmancy frickin laser beam on it's head. Y'know, under the theory that if I spend more it will be good.

It's rated for a pretty high amperage (15A?). Haven't used it yet.
