Like the header in the link below. Is it "ya get what ya pay for?" The pics actually don't look bad. The welds are a little sloppy but it is a 4-1 collector like RBs header. I'm on a tight budget and I'm just curious what people think about getting something like this, or spending the money elsewhere.

Couldn't really tell from the listing if this is a name-brand piece being resold or a home DIY job. If it's the former and you can verify it somehow, I'd say it's safe. If it's the latter, I wouldn't buy it - a bad weld will crack in no time, not to mention you have no gaurantee as to performance gains, etc. Just my .02

It's not a name brand header. It looks closest to a Racing Beat but if you look at an RB header it's like jewelry. I did find a good price on a JR header last night. Now I just need to sell the hard top so I can get it.

Those do not appear to be mandrel bends in the tubing.

Also note the angle that the rear header pipes hit the collector. I would not say that this is a serious piece of racing equipment.

Probably better than cast iron manifold though.

From what I know about a local place in Morrisville (SS Autochrome) who make similar devices for RX-7's (stainless turbo manifold, copy of a HKS manifold), folks that get them, find out that within a few thousand miles, they crack and end up spending almost as much as a new one to get them fixed or to have a new part "beefed up" so it will last. I'd ask them more questions about the tubing thickness and maybe some more close-up photos.

If you're on that tight of a budget, do a little more reading on miata.net: the concensus there is that the stock header does a really good job, and it truly isn't a restriction in the system. Sure, you might drop a couple of pounds and gain one or two ponies max, but spend the money elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip Wes. A header is really pretty low on my list anyway, but I came across them and wanted to find out what peoples' opinions were. They are definately no work of art but I hadn't thought about them cracking. I will steer clear and put my money in other things for now.
