I need to get my car checked to see if it is within our new db rule which I think is 100 db's? How is this measurement going to be taken? full throttle? Can we check it at the next meeting? Anyone know a good shop that could fabricate some kind of silencer for my exhaust?

thanks,
Tony Alfano

We certainly can NOT check it at the meeting. Imagine the negative attention that would bring to the club!

I've yet to hear a turbo car that would fail our sound check, you have a big spinning muffler in the line. Straight pipe, Subaru's pass just fine, 8000 rpm straight pipe Celicas would also pass.

Yeah, being that its a turbo, I would doubt you would hav any probs.

Hell most of last year I didnt run a cat or muffler on my DSM.

I wasn't suggesting to test in the parking lot of our meeting, but to go some where secluded to test. I know the car can wake up the neighbors. Last year there was no db level checks where there?

I just don't want to show up at the first event all excited and be turned away for being too loud.

thanks,
Tony

Last year there was not a check, however, I only remember one car that we would have actually felt the need to check, and it had 8 cylinders, not 4.

We run a 93 MR2 Turbo in stock class up here (NER-SCCA) sans anything (straight pipe) behind the cat. We have *no* problem passing the required 95db at 75ft. Don't know what all a SM2 car has done to it to make it louder, but that might give you an idea, knowing what you've done to it vs. what a stock one is.

100 db is loud.

ok thanks for all the info, I should'nt have a problem then, the only thing I have above stock as far as increasing noise is the intake.

I also would like to introduce myself I moved from Florida in October, where I was a driving instructor, event coordinator, and safety steward for the central florida region SCCA. I have a lot of experience with the software we will be using this year and would like to offer my help with timing and any other areas we may need help.

I look forawrd to racing with you all I attended the final event in Sanford as a spectator last year and was impressed with the club.

A helpful hint to ANYONE reading this thinking "Is my car to fargin' loud?"

Go to the grocery store and buy some steel wool. Snag a hose clamp big enough to go around the tip of your muffler/exhaust and some sort of mesh screen. Shove the steel wool into the exhaust, and keep it in there with the mesh/clamp. My buddy with the LOUD SS Camaro did this at the Greenville event and it took a COMPLETELY way too loud car down to a nice level. Its cheap insurance if your near the limit. 8)

Tony,

Welcome to THSCC. I see that you are familiar with AXware. I am not. Being that I am the Head of Scoring, I may need help. Also if you are interesten in working in the bus (T&S) I would be more than happy with putting you on the list.

Let me know.

Todd
