We have a local wi-fi network that you can access from a smartphone or tablet during an event. At NCCAR, you had to be near the front of the grid to pick it up. Once you connect to the THSCC wi-fi, point your browser to http://ts and you'll get access to the current results.

Well, the results are on the web site now...
http://www.thscc.com/autocross/events/2 ... ed_fin.htm

My 5th and 6th runs I could see the effects of being 2 hours out of practice...

...But I finished in the middle of my class! :D I didn't get seal-clubbed and finish 5 seconds behind the second-to-last guy like the whole rest of the season!

Is that not on thscc.com?

Those are only the real time results during the event, the results that get posted later on are after the day is over and they have audited everything with the raw sheets and such.

So, every once in awhile the results on the wifi at the event could be wrong and will get fixed later on.

Somebody uploads the results to the site after the event sometime.

What Art said though for the next event so you can see the times real time, and hopefully the time board will be working next time too.

The live unofficial results from the bus wifi are pulled directly from the timing system.

There's some turn around time before they hit the club site, but I believe they're up now.

you may have to turn off your cell data to use the bus wifi, my phone insists on it, page wont display till I toggle off the data plan even if I'm connected to the wifi

Now that I've had the RE-71Rs they've been through a dozen autocrosses and 2 HPDEs.
The treads are worn down considerably, the OPR from the track is really slow to come off, and I'm not sure they grip like they used to.

The good news is: Where the fast BMW in my class used to be 10% faster than me (or more), now I'm within 5% of his speed most of the time.

I read a new tire test article from Grassroots Motorsports, and they did all their testing on Miatas this time.
Well, I think my 240SX weighs about 2700lbs (without driver or instructor), and I'd like to make sure my next set of tires can take the heat of a 20 minute lap session with 3100 lbs of car and people.

Any new suggestions, or is RE-71R still the thing to have?

on the track I put down identical times on re71 as I do on hankook rs4, but the RS4 last me a LOT longer, and they start out with a lot more tread. They take longer to heat up and I have never had them get greasy hot like re71 do for me. At autocross events I am slower with the rs4 by a few tenths, they step out a little bit more but it is predictable and not quite as much grip at autocross temperatures.

I need to look into these RS4s.
In the event at Academi Saturday it seemed like I lost grip due to heat, because my waiting/cooling time between runs got shorter.
(And possibly because lunch included a steak the size of my plate and the car was carrying more weight in the afternoon.)

The track there is made a lot like a 2-lane country road, and it got me thinking "If I took this car back to New Mexico and drove it in the mountains for a couple of hours, how badly would I cook these tires?"

Maybe I have to give up some autocross grip :( in favor of durability on a road course.

From the reviews at the Tire Rack, it sounds like RS4s might also be the right tire for my Evo, if I ever race it again.

If I may ask, which of your cars are you racing?

We run RS-4s on our race car as well, and we're a big fan of them. The RE-71s don't last last 8 continuous hours at CMP for us.

Just to be sure... I've seen this tire ad:
Image
Is this a list of all the Street-ish tires that are any good?
And the RE-71 and R-S4 are the best?
No need to look into anything from another vendor?

(Mind you, I'm already sold on R-S4s for the Evo.)

clarify usage, some are better for autocross and some are better for track use

that list is old too, rs-4 replaced rs3, z3 replaced z2. rival s 1.5 is out now for smaller sizes

My intended usage is that the 240SX will definitely go to autocross, and it might go to HPDEs.
I don't think the RE-71Rs took a 20-minute lap session very well, under the weight of the 240. :-/
They started to feel weird after about 15 minutes.

I'm planning to take the Evo to at least one HPDE.
I'll see if I can drive it worth a damn by the time I use up a set of R-S4s on it.

I just took my new RE-71Rs to an autocross yesterday (with Tidewater Sports Car Club) and I'm really happy with them. :)
They felt like they had a lot more traction than the previous set.
I've never raced one of my cars with this much traction.

One possibility is that I abused my old tires with too much heat. With my previous set of tires, I got them on the car just in time to go to an HPDE at NCCAR. About 12 or 15 minutes into a lap session the road feel would change: I had a little less traction and it felt like I had rubber marbles under my tires.

...So I think taking them to the road course at NCCAR overheated them to where they never recovered all their traction.

Based on that theory, I'm not going to take my new RE-71Rs to the road course in October. I have another plan for that event... :D
