Does anyone have a high quality impact gun I can borrow. (air powered) I need to bust off a hub nut that is being very difficult and neither my battery powered gun or my cheap air tool is working.

Thanks
ROb

The breaker bar and cheater work best

Tried the breaker bar and heat. No luck..THe other side came off no problem. I've been blasting it about 2X per day so hopefully after a few days...

I've got both a pneumatic and electric. No clue how far I am from you...

I've always used a breaker bar and "cheater" 3-4' pipe on the Miata hub nut. I have never had any luck with an impact gun. The last time I removed one, I bent the pivot connection on the bar slightly to where it binds. Those nuts are on there tight!

You need a cheater pipe...a big one. I got some galvanized pipe from Lowes and it works great.

I'm pretty sure I almost had the car off the jack stand when I finally popped one of the rear ones on my car. The hard part is getting the axle stub out of the hub. If the nut is welded on there that hard the whole thing is likely a write off. Be careful to not mushroom the end, pounding on it with a hammer is the wrong way if it doesn't go quickly. Bring it to a shop with a large (20t+) press.

Just pull the axle and bring the knuckle + axle to a shop. If it doesn't want to come out with 10-15t on it, the axle's a write off.

Seems I remember successfully using a 3 jaw puller on axles, with anti-seize on the splines for re-assembly. Getting the bearing out of the knuckle requires a 20 ton press for sure...plus penetrating oil...and heat...and hammering...and time :)

To Jordan's comment, heat is your friend here. I was having some serious issue getting the front struts done on the old mazda 3 I had. I had to upgrade to mapp gas to get the job done. The propane wasn't getting hot enough quick enough.

I was trying to get the transmission bracket to diff bolts out on mine when pulling the motor and pretty sure I twisted one of the bolts. I decided to stop and leave it be before I snapped one off and made a giant headache for myself. I guess the brace is just stuck on there forever now lol.

I have axles. I literally can't get the nut loose. The right side one came off fine. Trying to not have to buy hubs and wheel bearing however, the more heat I have to use.

Rob,

I've got all kinds of stuff you can borrow. 18v Snap on 1/2" impact, 1/2" air impact, 24" breaker bar, cheater pipes, etc.

I'll agree with the idea that you need leverage here to crack it loose, but sometimes hitting it with a strong impact does the trick.
