Do you have windows? It's surprising how much heat comes in through those. I have a couple of portable units that cool my shop that weren't keeping up with the summer heat (90 degrees in the office), so I tried covering all of the shop windows with some foam board with a shiny side that I got at Lowes for a few $/sheet. I put it on the outside, caulked it to the window frame, and painted it with clear enamel. It's 69 degrees in my office now. Alternately (if you care about how stuff looks), you could get spectrum-specific film installed on them (I have this on my car, it works), although the foam sheets will be more effective.

When I wanted to cool the shop at the other end of my building, I bought a big used window unit on CL for $200 and cut a hole in the wall (concrete block walls), then built a wooden frame around the hole and put the AC in it. That thing works very well.
