Both of your statements are true, but it is the answer in this case, unless you live in the nile.

It's lighter
It gets better gas mileage
It's more reliable
It makes as much or more power
It's better suited for motorsports use
It fits EASILY.

Maybe not, but in this case, it is THE answer.

Ecotec in a C4 Vette, why not a Firebird?

The LS Mafia has spoken. Do not challenge them. ;)

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I'm well aware that the LS solution is consistent with conventional thinking. Surely, you know by now that I rarely follow conventional wisdom. Therefore, I decline to aqueous to your request! (means NO) :sing:

Hate the Rotary idea - love the Ecotec!

Either idea will get you a not so swift (gotta travel 700 miles first) kick to the nads.

I'd be more than embarrassed to raise the hood of my Firebird to show off it's Chevy Cobalt 4-banger power plant. :stick:

I wouldn't cross the street to see another LS-powered 1st gen Camaro/Firebird.

FWIW:
05 Cobalt SS coupe - 205hp, 2925lbs
My car as delivered from GM - 215hp, 2995lbs

Not sayin I'd go with a four-banger, just that the car doesn't need 400+hp as much as it would benefit from better handling and weight distribution.

You should put the Tesla drivetrain in it.

...and add the engine sound (via a speaker) of an LS V8.
