Whine from center of front of motor.right in front of the timing belt cover.either the pulley has eaten too much dust at rallies, or my water pump is going.it is rpm sensitive, bad when engine is cold, but never goes away.Dad says either alternator bearing,or water pump. I need to ask my freinds at Turbotime to see what is up.It is not sensitive to wheel movement, as far as steering wheel is concerned. It has oil in the motor too, plenty.I dont get it.I really hope, that if it is water pump...Doing the timing belt and all together, will make it go away.

I chased a similar noise on my Focus. It turned out to be an idler pulley on the serpentine belt. And then a week later the alternator packed it in.
