I love my go pro.
I am a big fan of go pros because of their customer service and field reps. I helped crew for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2 years ago and they were very willing to give you free spare sticky mounts, housings, bendy bits, etc. just because they were excited to see you using their camera! We had one get run over (we were stupid and poorly attached it to the bottom of the car for a suspension cam) and they were happy to help us out with a new case and lens.
Another thing I like is nearly everyone has them. If you need a last minute part for one at a race - let it be a battery, a bendy bit, a sticky pad mount, suction cup mount, etc - odds are someone there has some you can borrow.
Those two reasons are why I vote Go Pro but other cameras are great as well and worth checking out.
Things to look into:
Ability for Mic in - you know you want to be able to hear you guys over the intercom ...assuming you have audio out on there. Otherwise ignore this step.
Ability to film while charging. I plan on rigging up a hardwired power connection for my interior cam so I don't have to worry about the battery dying during a long day. I think running out of memory is not a concern.
I am about to pull the trigger on a GoPro H3Black (trip to Nurburgring this summer), but needed to do some additional research first. My concern is battery length. What type of external power is available for the Hero?
