I have the style in the first link of Mikes post and used them many times. 2 issues I've found. First, they don't work well on progressive rate springs where the coils are wound tight together. Had a heck of a time on the mustang getting the old springs off. I had to get a hammer to tap the hook into position on the coil where they would work. The hook is very think on this, which is good, they are robust. Second, don't use an impact driver on these. Once you get into the short rows of compressing the spring, the impacting force will cause shearing of the threads, at least it did on mine. You can you use a drill or impact to get it started, but use hand tools for the final compression.
