I need to buy more mechanic gloves but always get sticker shock at the auto parts stores. I don't like using the rubber or nitrile gloves - my hands start to sweat as soon as I put them on and after a while I have to watch out against raising my arms else they start to drain down my wrists - yes, it's that bad.

Suggestions?

Simon

I got a big bag of gardening gloves from some safety supply co I can't remember right now. Paid about $30 for about 20 pairs, I think.

Found it, actually...

I got the blue ones. Grippy, warm in the winter, but they breathe, so not bad in the summer. I can even put on lug nuts with these. I think I use the M, so you'd probably be L.

Check out the black "Firm Grip" gloves at Home Depot - the black utility gloves are my go-to now, they are $10.

Seasonally they will have a slightly cheaper version of the same glove for $9.98/3 pack, but usually only in Large (I wear Medium). And a few months ago I found similar Monkey Grip gloves for $5 including a towel and carabiner. Those didn't fit quite as well as the black Firm Grip Utility gloves, but for the price they are great.

They do seem to wear out / develop holes a bit faster than Mech Wear, but not too bad.

I have the same issue, but I don't like Mechanix gloves because once they have oil grease on them so does EVERYTHING else you touch. I probably change nitrile gloves two or three times each session just to avoid that issue.

Haha! So I am not the only one! I watch gallons of water flow of of my gloves and think "My god! How can anyone sweat out that much water from just their hands!?" However my pores are well exercised and my skin and nails are immaculate! ;)

I am like VK. Mechanics gloves just get too dirty for me and end up defeating the purpose. I use nitrile all the time and occasionally some leather gloves if I have to handle something hot or dangerous (i.e. knotted wire grinder).

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I picked up some new gloves at Sams Club the other day. They are cheap nylon/cotton stretch gloves that have had the palms dipped in rubber (might have nitrile on the palms/fingers). The gloves come in a pack of 8 or 10? and cost $8. I consider that to be in "disposable" territory. I've used them a few times (and didn't need to dispose), and found the rubber is quite grippy, so not only were my hands staying clean, but I actually had some fine motor skills.

The fabric won't be water/solvent proof, so don't get them for something that requires that.

We don't have a Home Depot in East Egypt any more.
