I've signed up for the Sept VIR event and now it's time to start gathering parts and prepping the car. First off I need recommendations for some decent track pads. That mustang is a big heavy car w/ decent, not great, but decent brakes. I'll be running stock rotors. When I ran my white mustang at CMP a few years ago, I got decent performance out of the Hawk HT10, but they only lasted 5 of my 6 sessions. I need something a little more durable and long lasting.

VK? Recommendations?

Hawk DTC-60s. (FYI, the DTC-70s cost more, but don't last any longer or stop any better on my S197) Mine lasted 2 days on VIR-F, 2 days on VIR-N, and 2 days at CMP. They were just a hair off the backing plate when I removed them after CMP so they are "done", but 3 track weekends was about what I expected from them.

I'd like to try one of the PFC's race compounds, but they don't make them for the S197 that I have found.

i've used the DTC-70s and didn't like them vs the HT-10s. but my car is much lighter than ya'll's. i think they like a lot of heat to work properly. i prefer a quicker grabbing pad.

Graham swears by them so it is probably more car specific.

PFC 01s & 97s are supposed to be the shizzle for an E36.

I picked up a set of Carbotech XP8's and new front rotors for that weekend. Just gonna run stock rears as I hope that is just fine. Now comparing the weight of the RX8 to your car is really a oranges to apples comparison but I have read good things about them, so hoping they work well. Running on new BFG KDW's fwiw...

<--is just hoping it doesn't cost him as much in gas $$ as it did to sign up for the track event

XP10 / XP8 combo on my Z06 worked well.

I liked the Pfc 01 way better on my car than the ht10 or dtc 60. Pad life was better, braking feel was better and they didn't crack like hawks.

Just a heads up for Hawk folks: the DTC-60 is the superceded part of the HT-10.

I liked both the HT-10 on the Miata and the DTC-60 on the 2... then again, you're almost hauling double the weight.

I used about $250 worth with the STi last time, including the drive there and back (at 22mpg - suck on that).

Also, I used Carbotech XP10 front/ XP8 rear, and they were fine. Apparently I don't brake as hard as most people, though, because mine looked almost-new when I drove home, and I'm still driving around with the XP8's on the rear (and HP+ on the front).

I ran Carbotech XP10/XP8 as well as XP12/XP10 combinations on my 99 Cobra for years -- 3684lbs with me in the seat. Either setup will work, although I will recommend the 10/8 combo for you as you probably will not need to the extra temp capacity of the 12s.

I use 12/10s on the Z06 at 3118lbs and have considered stepping up to the 16s or 20s.

So after looking at some of my old notes and info on the 07 GT I had, I used carbotech XP10-s all away around the mustang. Front brakes were gone on Sunday and I didn't get to run my last session. I do have the XP-10 for the rear and they are in great shape, so I'll be using those again. So, I'm hearing to run the Hawk DTC60 pads unless there is something else to buy.

Recommendations on where to buy?
