Why are we arguing about all season tires and if you should use summer tires year round in NC (I do). Kevin said he wanted "a good set of Hi Perf Summer Tires."

To make it clear, I wasn't arguing for all-season tires on the Vette for Kevin either, unless I guess if it were his year round daily driver, which I would also not recommend. Just that all-season tires are applicable for year-round daily driver cars even in NC regardless of snow fall amounts. Summer only tires are somewhat dangerous even in the dry if it is below freezing outside as traction is significantly reduced, I suppose you can get by, but I'm not a fan, I like traction.

"to make it clear" normally means I have pissed off my wife. I am obviously hanging around Remckak to much. Sorry, Honey

What I want is a decent street tire that won't get me into trouble due to the car's power. So a good amount of grip will be necessary. I'll worry about autox and track later.

1. Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercars - Not an option. I DON'T DO GOODYEARS.

2. Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports - Actually I've always liked Bridgestones for street tires. Not sure that a 340AA treadwear will be sticky enough.

Car currently has Firestones on it. Don't think much of them at the end of their life.

Kevin, believe it or not, don't write off Goodyears altogether. I, too, used to think that Goodyear made nothing but junk, but it's not so. I have Goodyear GS-D3s on the S2000, and they have been excellent. Plenty good enough for the occasional pop on an autocross course, brilliant in the rain, and pretty quiet, too.

They don't make them in S2000 sizes anymore, but you can still get bigger sizes. Looks like there's even a rebate:

That's something I should have mentioned with the GS-D3s - they are evil in sub freezing temperatures. Like, park the Z06 and drive the Excursion evil.

I've got them on mine and I've driven it during some hard rains  and it was not Effing scary. Of course I also adjusted my speed to the conditions and I agree that they are not optimal wet tires.

That said they are F***ING EXPENSIVE for daily driving tires.

i drove back from L'burg one time in a very light rain and the car hydroplaned horribly. very unpredictable at highway speeds. i had to stay at about 45 mph until the rain quit.

This has been more entertaining than beating a hornet nest with a stick and running away! :)

I'm dumb enough to drive summer tires here in NC during the winter - especially eastern NC. Ya just got to drive accordingly when it's cold. My drive to work is only 10 miles each way. Occasional snow? Jump in the Excursion.

Not sure what I'll wind up with yet since there's a few more months of tread left on the current set of tires.

I think I'm gonna rule the Nittos out because they just don't have much tread to begin with and would totally suck in the rain.

This has been a very entertaining thread to read. If you have any questions or want the opinion of someone that has sold a variety of tires on Corvettes and received feedback from the driver's give me a shout. 919-789-8356.

Interesting discussion from some folks that I am not entirely sure understand what driving a somewhat high horsepower decently balanced RWD car can be like.

Like Graham said, don't look for 265x17s as your options will be limited. You can easily run 275s on the front 17x9.5 wheels, just be aware that the car will tramline more than with the narrower front tire. Run 295s, 305s or 315s for the rear 18x10.5 wheels.

Any deep tread tire is going to do fine in the water, but you will be able to light up the rear tires on the dry or the wet at any time with your right foot. Simple fact of having 406hp at 3300lbs and less rubber under you.

I recommend the NT05, but that is because I like the Nittos. Pretty much any 200 treadwear or less tire is going to be fine for a summer tire. But even then you are going to be able to spin the tires if you drive like an idiot. I have daily driven on NT01s with the Cobras as well as the Z06. In the rain, NT01s on the street are slick. Simple solution is to slow down.

Or just do what I did: Slap Hoosier A6s on it and only run it at the track. Keeps down on the mileage.

But, what do I know??? Take Jeb up on his offer and give him a call.

The Goodyears tramline too. It was the first thing that felt funny when I started driving mine compared to a normal vehicle. The NT-01's would probably be not too good in the rain once you had about a month's wear on them. I have them for the Miata and they are good track tires, but I think as DD tires not so good.

My guess would be Bstones, Conti's, Nittos, something with some tread but summer tires. He has a Expedition for really bad weather. I'll not replace the Supercars that are on there too spensive.
