I've gone through at least three fluid pumps in the past few years. They always seem crappy, they leak, and the moving parts usually fail after about 5-10 uses. I'm committed to Redline transmission and diff fluid, and I'd like to invest in a good pump that screws onto the bottles to provide a mess-free pumping experience. All the ones I've found online have reviews mentioning specifically that they do NOT screw onto the Redline bottle threads (I think they are finer than most quart bottles).

:?: Does a quality fluid pump exist, and do any of them screw onto the Redline bottles? What are you guys using?

Thanks!

I gave up on fluid pumps years ago. I've found a funnel attached to a really long hose can achieve most any transmission/differential filling needs I've come across. Less hassle and less mess.

yeah, I heat a clear hose and then push it way up on the funnel so it can't come off. Then zip tie the funnel to a secure place in the engine bay and let gravity do it's work. But if you like to pump I think you just have to poor the redline into an old Amsoil bottle.

BTW, does anybody in the triangle sell redline off the shelf?

X2. Gravity never wears out or needs to be replaced. IOW, you can be sure that it wasn't invented by a German.

Take any coke bottle or water bottle (cleaned out and dry obviously), pour the fluid from the redline bottle into it, screw the standard fluid pump onto it. At least thats what I do.

Redline (or any company) is missing out on an opportunity. I'd pay good money for a fluid pump that actually worked well and held up.

The hose+funnel+gravity method sounds messy but I can appreciate the reliability of it. :? Maybe I'll try that next time since my last pump is sitting in about 6 pieces...

I will admit I do all my fluid changes standing under my cars while they are on my lift. However, I just have a bucket that sits near my parts washer that has funnels, etc in it and I use a suction gun. Keep my oil drain pan underneath it and its good to go. Its prob ten years old now from Napa and works like a champ. Prob gets used a dozen times a month or so on various vehicles and rear diffs

Nah, just being up front as to why a suction gun works in my situation...

^this

Why worry about trying to find a pump that fits an odd bottle, just find one that fits another type of bottle and use it instead.

It's not really any more messy than swapping the pump out from bottle to bottle.

I will also agree on the long hose + funnel method- once you figure out the best way to route everything, it works just fine every time.

John I'm going to be thinking of you when I'm laying on the gravel driveway cursing tomorrow dissecting (bumper cover, crossbeam, & dropping entire exhaust) the rear end of the S2000 just for a trailer hitch.

Zach, the pump I got for my Amsoil bottles worked like a champ but I think the Redline spout is a lot small IIRC.. I didn't even think about filling the diff with a long tube extending out the wheelwell but I guess that seems pretty easy.

They show Autozone, Advance, O'Reilly and Carquest as Redline retailers, but they are fairly hit and miss on what flavors they carry.

EDIT: I'd check Carquest first, if there's one convenient to you- they can likely order whatever you need and get it delivered from the Raleigh distribution center in a day or less. OR, if you're going anywhere near the Raleigh Dist center store on Millbrook Rd, they can pull almost anything out of the warehouse next door while you wait.

I'm not sure about the S2K, but on a Miata you can pop out a grommet in the trunk above the diff so the hose doesn't need to be really long.

BTW, why does an S2K have a dual exhaust and those two HUGE mufflers in the first place?
