we have a heavy misfire in our se-r rally cross car.
we think it is injectors, we can not easily find vaccuum leaks.
anyone have any suggestions, we put in some injector cleaner and gas mix in.
the tranny works now, so that is some victory, but the engine does not run right.. could be bad gas too. I am curious as to how to fix it, so that when we rallycross i am in good shape.

Does it misfire at idle? If so, pull the plug wires one at a time. If you pull a plug wire and it doesn't make the misfiring worse, then that is the cylinder where you have your issue.

Did you have the plug wires off? If so, are the back on securely, and are the in the right firing order? (I have gotten them out of order several times)

Did you have the injectors unplugged? If so, check the electrical connector at each injector, and check any other junctions in the injector wiring harness. I have seen this happen on a friend's car - first, the injector connectors weren't plugged in all the way. Then, some still didn't fire, and it turned out he had pulled on part of the harness and pulled some pins out of other connectors.

Pulled the plug wires sequentially, but couldn't get the boot far enough away to prevent arcing to the plug (deep well plugs and a harness that doesn't favor removing one plug at the time). Did listen to the injectors with a stethoscope and all seemed to be clicking away - but we did have the connectors off during the engine removal.
Did a compression check and found one cylinder down 10psi, but all cylinders were at the bottom of the acceptable range (poo!). The mystery is that the car seemed to be running OK when the transmission case cracked, so it is hopefully something simple like a cracked distributor or bad plug wire.
Using a timing light I did verify ignition on each cylinder individually.
Just need more time and inspiration.
I need to determine whether or not to keep spending time and money on this rally-x car or just cut my losses. If we are going to run it, we need to weld up the leaks in the exhaust to quieten it a lot.
